WRX seats... DONE
Well half way done... The passenger seat is in and fits great. It was relatively easy to do (if you have the tools) and in my opinion looks awesome. Here is a pic of the finished product and then I will do a short write up since I took notes and pics while I did the install.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...WRXseats-1.jpg You need to bend the front tabs down to mate with the svx front mounting points. I cut the rear feet off completely and bought a piece of steel and welded it flat with the bottom of the rail and drilled a hole to mount it to the two rear mounting holes. I did not use the side hole on the center hump. |
And yes I know the car is filthy, but once the motor is back together and the driver seat is in. It will have a saturday dedicated to it getting cleaned and detailed.

Backward
Disregarding any possible gain in seating support, I personally think you went backwards. It does not look nearly as classy as the SVX seat. Just my opinion. :)

the early WRX seats are certainly much more comfortable and supportive than my '05 LGT seats!
i'd definitely recommend some Wet Okole seat covers if you want to change the back/blue color to match the rest of your interior (and also for waterproofing, and a little extra cushioning, too.) they're a little pricey, but WELL worth it. |
I think about doing the swap everytime I hop in the bug eye.
I know each have their pros and cons.... but I think I'll enjoy the wrex's more. |
I'll stick with leather.. I tend to pee my pants while driving home drunk from the bars.

They are several pounds lighter. The exact difference I'm not sure, but just by moving them around the garage you can tell the difference (especially the driver seat). A rough guesstimate would be maybe a savings of 10lb on the passenger seat and maybe a little less than 20lb on the driver seat. Also, the side support is a lot better. When you stand back and look at the seat in the car finished, I really do not think it detracts from the car at all. Heck, 225.- for seats that have less than 200 miles on them, replacing worn, split 159,xxx mile seats all the while shaving 25-30lb off, is a good thing.
