Radio Antenna
My radio antenna doesn't quite work properly. I am assuming, that when the car is off and the radio is powered down, the antenna retracts fully into the car body. Mine sticks up about six inches. When the motor tries to extend or retract, it makes a horrible grinding noise. It looks like the entire antenna unit is slightly bent.
Is there a way to disconnect the motor so it does not try to extend the antenna without actually disconnecting the entire antenna? Also, are these units replaceable for fairly cheap? No more rebuilt transmission prices! |

Yes you can just replace the mast, its a dirty job but the mast only cost me about $25.00

Check out this how to on replacing the mast:

I recently replaced my antenna mast. Two years of having a stubby antenna finally got to me and I broke down and replaced it. Completing all the steps was a PITA, but it is not rocket science. If you just replace the mast, it's not too bad ($35 or so, I think). If you have to replace the motor the cost goes way up.
The noise will eventually drive you crazy enough that you will have to it . Might as well break down and get a new mast sooner rather than later. Matt |
Is there a way to disconnect the motor without disconnecting the antenna? I hardly ever listen to the radio...
Also, where are we getting these masts from? Sub dealer or does an aftermarket company make them? |
