Tires

I need some new tires. For my car. Its an SVX.

1st) Is anybody selling a good set of tires? maybe you bought some that turned out just weren't for you or maybe your SVX is dead but the tires are still okay. Send me a PM.

2nd) If I'm going to go buy some, what kind should I get? I don't do any racing and I live on the east coast where it gets wet and snowy in the winter.

I buy all of my tires on ebay. Be careful and look hard. There are great deals.

Yeah discount tires seems to have good prices and selection. About 1/3 cheaper than the stores around me, and free shipping.

I got a set of Hankook Ventus last fall. They were a little less than $100 each and for that price I have been quite happy with them. I just do normal driving so I don't need anything too special.

I got some Hankook k-106's on ebay for $240 shipped. They have treated me well so far.

Yes the ze 512's are really good from everything I heard. But stay away from the newer ze 912's

Yeah so I got the 512s. They seem pretty good. Corner nicely. Ride is still a little bumpy though. I guess I need new shocks.

Re: Tires

Now that I have put some hundred of miles on the new tires I think they are working even better. Do new tires have to be worn in? I've heard of this in auto racing, but I didn't know it carried over into the real world.

I am a Toyo and Kumho guy...

Re: Tires

A good all-season recommendation would be welcome.

I try to do Summers/Snows... but I am just not sure that I can afford it for the SVX right now...

I would prefer to have a cheap set of 16 wheels and snows, and a nice set of 17"s and summers... But I am not sure that in 10 months or so, that I would be able to buy a whole set of wheels and tires for the car, after putting snows on.

Plus the OE wheels would need to keep their weird, rare lug nuts, when I would prefer to go with one set of McGard spline-drive bearing conical-seat lugs, like my Legacy uses now...

So... for now, I think the OE wheels are gonna have to get some good all-season rubber in a few months. The Toyo T1-Rs on the car are good tires, but the fronts are knackered on the outboard shoulders, and the left rear is plugged from a nail hole, which created a wheel-stud and lug nut replacement adventure... I like the Toyos, and I have a set of them on the Miata.

But I am thinking I probably need something that is pretty darn good in the winter, and a decent touring tire otherwise. I find myself driving the SVX a bit more leasurely than my Legacy GT... not that the SVX doesn't have the power... it just lends itself to touring type driving.

Anybody have any good luck with an all-season that is good in the white-stuff, and competent and quiet otherwise?

I can honestly say first hand that I had Goodyear assurance triple treads on my 95 FWD cutlass and it drove amazing in rain, snow/ice and dry. They are expensive so i'm sure there is something that is as good for less.

What's wrong with the 912?? It's new updated design from 512!!
For certain size, the 512 is already discontinued!
The 912 also has higher treadwear.

I think "good all-season tire" is an oximoron. They really do not give good snow traction.
Have a look at post #8 in this thread.
