Stalling in the morning - What do you think MAF?

The SVX recently not been running so good in the morning, which is bad since I am a morning person.

For example, this morning I started it and it idled fine for about 30 seconds then cut out and died. Start it again, dies after 10 seconds. Try it again, seems fine, make it to the stop sign, dies again. Drive another mile or two and dies while driving. Get to the gym with no more issues. Finish with the gym and drive to work the car runs fine, idles fine, no stalling. Basically after gets warm it stops stalling and is fine the rest of the day. The idle is always smooth and the engine has not been rough at all. I checked, no codes.

I am guessing the MAF may need to be cleaned or replaced, maybe fuel filter? Fuel system cleaner? 02 sensors, all of the above? What do you all think?

More than likely you are correct in suspecting the MAF.

I have a spare or two floating around if you wanna play the swap game!

Well, I have my own then I have a metal legacy one..throws illegal MAF code but works fine.

Re: Stalling in the morning - What do you think MAF?

If it was the Maf I am not sure why it only do it in the morning, but the abrupt cut off into a stall makes it seem maf related. I guess, tonight I'll spray it with Maf cleaner and put it back in. I figure that is the 1st step to try before swapping them. (whew, a bit of Deja Vu)

Also it seems like a good time to change the coolant temp sensor. I have a OEM one in the garage that I have been meaning to put in to replace the aftermarket one.

+1 the temp sensor is what I would suspect first. Cold engines dont run well in premature closed-loop A/F and timing maps. However going back over the symptoms, it could be an intermittent contact in the MAF. As the metal heats up with the rest of the underhood components, the broken contacts are pressed together as the metal expands.... this could be a possibility given your symptoms.

I'll do the temp sensor tomorrow and if that doesn't help I have a lead on another MAF from a local parts car. If neither of those work I'll probably take the trip down to OT and get it fixed right.

Jason,
PMing you about the MAF swap, the cleaning and coolant temp sensor didn't help.

It appears that it is a bad MAF. Testing with a replacement has fixed the cold idle stalls, which is a good thing.

Good to hear you found the problem. Do you still have a source for one?

Sort of, the guy says that it works and the price is good, but he is kind of hard to deal with, which makes me not want to do business with him. He also doesn't seem to want to ship it for me which is pain since he is almost and hour away.

Anyhow, if you have one to sell I'd be interested. ;)

I have another bad MAF in my garage that I am going to try to re-solder tonight, maybe that will work, I know it has worked for others here.

Currently running on a re-soldered MAF. So far so good. :)
