lurch when shifting 2-3

I have had my 92 LS-L for about a month now. It has 145K but the tranny was rebuilt within the last 10K miles. The car runs great, but when shifting from 2-3 I get a "lurch" motion. It is like somebody is hitting the brake while it shifts. Does anybody know what could be causing this? Or how to fix it? I did recently install the small car shift kit which appears to be working fine (except from 2-3). The shifts are smooth at slow speeds and firm with high revs.

Please, I need ideas!!! Could adjusting the brake band help?

Thanks,
Matt.

adjustment of the brake band is recommended for "braking action at the shift from 2-3" per the Chilton manual. sounds like it might be the cure. :)

Loosening the band will tighten up the 2-3 shift. Loosen too much and 1-2 and 3-4 will get sloppy. If you tighten it 2-3 will get worse.

Work with 2 turns (1/2 rotations) at a time until you find a comfortable setting for all gear changes.
