painting the baby

Alright, so my paint job looks like butt. So i've been thinking about repainting it lately, so i went to get some prices. I've come to the conclusion that if i do get it painted, its definetly not going to be white any more.

$2500 just for the paint to repaint just the white part pearl again. yeah....ummmm.no!

To change the color including the door jams, hood, and the 300 dollars in body work (dings, scratches, the one dent that has been there since i got it) it only comes out to $1000.

So woohoo, i figure i'll make painting the car my 6 month goal!

I think i'm going to redo the white park BRIGHT green pearl. It'll look nifty!! but then again, that's just my color of the week (i even bought the green K-swiss shoes) so who what color it'll be 6 months down the road.

Anyways, i just wanted to see what ya'll think about the price and color!!

If that's all they're going to charge you for a color change like that, I wouldn't expect a very good paint job.

Expect to pay at least $2000 for a decent job, and that goes for same color or a color change.

that price is with full primer, mechinal and hand sanding, and a 2 year warrenty on the paint. I checked out paint job that they had done, as well as i know a few people that have had their cars painted there, and the paint seems to hold up. I'm going to get prices from a few other places, but i think i'm going with this place, it's maaco, so i'm pretty confident in their ability. If it turns out bad, then it's a lesson learned.

bright green sounds disgustingly ricey. svx != civic

btw i'd be really wonder why it would cost more to repaint it stock then to shoot it another colot. Color changes on a car hard to do right. it will just look silly when u pop your hood and u see the white engine bay..

Maaco is a body shop I would stay away from. They cut corners any chance they get. Not sure what you need done for body work, but their specialty is to just scuff sand and shoot. Their painters are pretty good, but they are not very good at masking. Be prepared to be cleaning overspray off your trim, interior, glass, etc.

They don't use hardener in their paint, which helps keep the cost down, but your paint won't last much longer than the 2 year warranty they're giving you.

Run a search on here about Maaco if you want more info.

Maaco, in general, has a bad reputation. I've never heard anyone sing praises about their paint jobs. It might look good for a year or so, but don't expect a factory fresh paint job for $1,000. Don't be cheap. Go the extra mile and get it done right the first time.

Just my two cents.

Paint dosn't stick to babies very well, and they tend to become noisy upon application, stick to painting cars 'n houses:rolleyes:

I absolutely, totally agree. I paid a good shop $350 just to repaint my rear bumper cover.

There is simply no way I'd trust any shop to do a $1000 full paint job.

im not saying i would do this or what not but my freind painted his toyota tacoma a dark blue from it being a light blue for only 950 $ and it looks good too.

I am seriously concidering taking my car to an Earl Schieb, and getting their top package. I have heard that their paint is much better quality than Maaco's, but they do little to no prep work. So my plan is to do the prep work myself (fill the dings, wet sand, and some masking). Anyone have any experience with an Earl shop? I know someone had their SVX done by them a while back, and felt the results were acceptable (atleast at the time).

AWWW, ya'll just totally bursted my bubble, lol. But it's ok, i guess my bubble needed to burst :( I'll look at a few more places around town and maybe some in gainseville. Wow, the whole price thing is a total buzz kill though, i thought $1000 was a lot, and now more. Oh well, maybe it will be my project a year from now, lol!! Thanks for the input guys!~
