Where Can I get A New Alternator Plug ?

Would appreciate any help as to where I can find a new alternator plug ? The wires in mine have become brittle and are showing, causing all the lights to flicker. Thanks

I think John "svxcess" found a source for these? If he doesn't reply here send him a PM.

Soldering iron, solder, and some new wire would probably save you the hassle of having to buy a new plug.

Find a place that rebuilds alternators, they usually have spares lying around.
That's how I got one.

Re: Whan Can I get A New Alternator Plug

These are the plastic plugs on the passenger side of the alternator, for the voltage regulator, right?

Mine is intact, but pretty well baked brittle, and the wiring insulation is similarly brittle and splitting.

I am having to charge the battery with an external charger every 2-3 days or so. (new battery last month...)

I am thinking it might be approaching the time to get a re-built up-rated alternator, and do the wiring upgrade mod. a new voltage regulator plug would probably go along with that.

Do the plugs come with a wiring pigtail to splice into the existing wiring, or does the plug require wiring to be pinned and installed into the plug?

Yes. they have about 3-4" of wire attached. Just mark or disconnect one at a time to avoid confusion. The original plug wires are two different thicknesses, while the replacement plug wires are both the same size

Just wanted to bump this thread to thank John “svxcess” for all the helpful information on this topic.

The alternator went out, as well as a tire going flat, so the SVX has been waiting for me to assemble some money to fix it. Now the money is assembled, so I am assembling parts.

A new Maniac alternator, a Littelfuse holder and fuse, and a regulator plug replacement are all on order, and tires will be soon, too, to get back on the road properly, and reliably.

The information thread on the electrical repair/upgrade procedure has been invaluable, thanks again.
