Anyone ever notice
So am I the only one who thinks it weird that the windsheild wiper selector switch has the same setting twice? If you set the intermitent selector knob to "high", it is the exact same speed and rate of the second setting down on the wiper control (as in position 3, position 1 being off, 2 being intermittent, and 3 being the same)

When you pull to a stop it will slow down on intermittent while on setting two it just keeps going.
Did you know there is two speeds below intermittent? I didn't until recently. Also found pulling the lever toward you does a single wipe. |
okay. i've been trying to figure this out for a while: is this normal? When my winter/summer switch is on summer the wipers will go up, and stop at the top of the swing, pausing for just a little bit, then go back down. And in winter mode it does not do this. Is this normal?
<== confused :( |
Wiper doesn't have to travel as far in winter mode, and it's possible your motor or wiper cogs are stressed from age.
Are you talking about when they are running, or when you switch them off? When I switch mine off the wipers will pause slightly at the top of the wipe before tey return to resting position. |
sharky, mine do the same thing... never could figure it out... well, never really bothered to...

By two speeds below I mean full auto speeds, fast and really fast or as you might put it, positions 3 and 4.

what is the benefit of the wiper stopping at the top of the swing? I just keep my wipers in winter mode year-round because of it.

The pause is the wiper system changing into "parking" mode. I don't know exactly what it's doing but it's probably doing some rotation to allow the wipers to come to rest off the windshield.
Other vehicles that do this pause while the wipers are in the "home" position. |
