Shuddering around turning?

Hey all. I just had my transmission fluid changed this morning with a regular flush, gasket and screen change in the pan. I noticed at the end of the day I started getting a shuddering when accelerating and turning from a stop. It only happens when my wheel is turned enough, but its not from when I turn the wheel all the way.

Could it be a slipping gear? Otherwise it seems fine. :( I hope it will go away.

It sounds to me like the transfer clutch binding a little. There's a procedure that might cure this. It involves driving in tight figure-8s in a parking lot, but I don't remember the specifics.

They showed me the tranny fluid when they took it out. It was a little dirty but nowhere near black, so I know my tranny isnt fried. The tranny does perform alot better now though. It seems to shift more effortlessly.

The shuttering can be a clue that your cooler is clogged. If the pressure gets too high in the cooler circuit, it can force open duty solinoid C engaging the rear and causing the binding you are talking about.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what to do but I know I'm not gonna drive my car that far unless I have to. Should I just get a B&M cooler and just bypass the whole cooler altogether?

Also, is the external filter for the transmission replaceable with the Permacool replacement filter?

Funny...today I experienced the same shuddering from the rear on both left & right hard turns into parking spaces. Until today the car has been flawless. Could heat have anything to do with this? Today it hit 93 degrees after the longest, coolest, wettest spring in recent mid-Atlantic history. All lubricants & fluids were changed less than 20K ago. Tranny fluid is still "pretty in pink". I've heard about the figure 8 gyrations, but....Why? What are the clutches attempting to do?

Ron (no more tight parking for me!)

Ron,

You put too many Boxi-O-Vino in the trunk. They are deforming the right rear inner fender well causing the well to rub on the right rear tire when your low speed 4WS engages for parking in tight spaces.

PS: How's that for an arcane explanation?

:( I dont know what to do I'm just leaving my car at home because I dont want to damage or overheat anything until I know what to do. :(

Car shuttering around turns

Is your power light flashing on start up? If it is you can find out the code. If its the Duty Sol. C like it sounds expect to pay 500 or so to get it fixed by a dealer. That's what it cost me plus I had to have a tranny mount replaced as well for another $200. A cooler won't do anything to help solve this situation. Driving it around dry turns if it is in 50-50 would be very bad. It would be like driving a part time 4x4 system on a dry road. You'll eat up your tranny quick!

I'm not getting any codes on startup. I havent driven it at all today.

What kind of fuse should I put in to get the car into FWD mode? If it stops, is it the duty C selenoid?

Tim 06-25-2003 05:37 PM

I put the FWD fuse in and the shudering vanished. I'm assuming it no longer can be the blockage?

If it goes away with the FWD fuse it, it is for sure blockage or a bad solinoid C. Lets hope for blockage.

Hopefully its the blockage. I'm going out to get a permacool filter and try backflushing the radiator to see where it will get me.

The people didn't change the campaign filter because they didnt know one existed and they couldnt get a part number.

BOoooo.... "Is your car some kind of european prototype that you imported?"

Hey can someone show me a diagram of where the hoses from the lines of the transmission cooler to the filter?

I'm thinking maybe they hooked it up backwards and it could have been the case.

Also the line from the transmission supposed to run to the filter first, then the radiator, then back to the tranny?

It's really urgent I'm outside under the car looking at everything and I want to make sure where all the lines run.

Search in the Tech forum. There's a posting this topic in there.
