Guidelines for posting tomorrow 9/11

As we approach a day that will run emotions high, I ask that everyone be extra slow when posting tomorrow.

Read and re-read your responses before you post or better yet, walk away and come back and read again before you post.

Many of us will be mourning, some will not be, but I am not going to put up with reading pointless bickering tomorrow.

My personal solution: I'll not be visiting here tomorrow. Its a shame to say this, but I've stopped leaving calling cards on SVXs because I'm ashamed to have them stop in and see what's going on.

I hope that things will return to their normal respect soon or I may stop visiting here altogether. That's a shame since, I can count on one hand the number of people that have donated as much money and hardware to keep this place running as I have. This current climate forces me to rethink my decisions.

Thank you for listening, have a great evening.

Doug

Thank you, Doug. Many of us share your feelings. I took a hiatus myself, and considering NEVER returning, but, I am back with a vengeance. There is no need to have this forum destroyed due an onslaught of brainless, boyish bravado. Somehow, I hear my mother's voice imparting her wisdom to me in this situation. Her words were wise and true: "Don't feed it and it will go away."

Those of us who have worked hard to build something good for the SVX community . . . something different from the testosterone laden insult-fests that others call "forums" . . . something that we can be proud of, and have donated time, monies, hours of our lives and have spent almost every waking hour here . . . who have developed relationships, yes, even friendships through the ether . . . should not and will not put up with it. Yes, what some of the newbies don't understand is that this isn't some "public forum" that was spawned from a dot-com giant. It was started, funded and continues to be maintained by SVXers. Yes -- BY SVXERS FOR SVXERS.

Hearts will turn, so stomachs won't have to, or, I'd just as soon go back to Yahoo and fight the ads. But, for now, I'll do whatever is within my power to see that this place returns to the friendly, welcoming, respectful community it once was.

My warning is (and, yes, I said warning), if there are any posts that are disrespectful to the occasion of commemorating last year's event, I will personally delete them. I would hate to spend my entire day "baby sitting" this forum, but, I will not have the memory of this occasion sullied by pettit upstarts. If you want to show your respects in a kind and positive way, please feel free to do so. If you don't, then, do not respond to the posts of those who do. Notice, there were no question marks in that statement. Don't misunderstand. That wasn't a "will you please." Short and sweet: say something respectful, or say nothing at all.

Doug, Randy,

Thank you.

P.S. I keep forgetting to send in another donation. Thx Doug for the reminder.

Bad day at Black Rock

Well said Doug.

Measure twice, cut once.

By the tone here, I am picking up there must have been some kinda flame war on here I missed, probably fuelled by adolescent know-it-all-ism.

Glad you are calling the shots, Randy. I am not a fan of [read HATE] censorship, but with so much heartache going round, we can do without angst and bravado for a day or so.

A little respect.

Not much to ask

Joe

Doug & Randy,

Thanks....well said.

Thanks Randy and Doug.
I, for one, appreciate all you do.

Please behave like grown ups everybody (and you know who you are). Not just for 9/11 but always.
I'm becoming ashamed of this place I have called "home".

I too have become reluctant to leave notes inviting others to this site. Hopefully we can all learn from what has gone on here and move on to make a stronger community.

I'm sorry to ask, and possibly bring up something that may make some others flame each other again, but i've been regularly visiting here for about 3 months now, and I never saw a flame war.

In the last 3 weeks, I even told 3 other SVX ers in my area (since I got mine, others have stopped me, and bought their own!) how helpful and mature all the members here are, and how nobody fights with each other.

Well, it's not important. I got the point of the first post.

One problem I have is that 9/11 tomorrow isn't a national holiday...I find it insulting that we get off for christmas, and 50 Jewish holidays, but something horribly horrible hit so close to home, and people will be going to work tomorrow like nothing happened. I don't get it.

Well said Doug and Randy.

I won't repeat what the earlier posts in this thread save for saying that I too join in their support.

Allow me to cite an analogy.

You don't shut down the hotel because a few guests puke in the lobby.
You clean up the mess & try to find a better class of clientele.
It ain't perfect, but life goes on. Let's enjoy it while we got it.

Ron.

I was so glad when I found this site...I talked to my acquaintances about it and was very proud being member of it. I used to look forward to visiting here everyday but to my dismay I found too much bickering and hostility going on lately, I must admit it hurts me a little bit that's why I don't visit as much as I used to. The climate has somehow changed and whatever happened to the nice and friendly atmosphere???:(

EXACTLY!

Free speech is guaranteed in public......as far as I can tell this is a privately funded forum.......nuke anything you feel improper and feel good about it!

I've been reluctant to ban too quickly, because I don't want people to start fearing the hand of the moderators (some other boards I visit have a very different feel, because the mods try to control everything). Anyways, as I said in the other thread, I believe the issue has been dealt with and won't be a problem again. I'd just like to drop it now..
