Transparent paint

Anyone know much about transparent paints? I was thinking about recasting the taillights and removing the amber and am contemplating the best way to color it.

Idk if this is what you look for, but it gives a good idea of the product/process involved.

Also this can be usefull if you want them red flat (the potato crisps are optional)

I guess that could work, when the weather gets better i'm gonna try and recast the tail lights without the amber

What do you mean "recast"? I've been thinking about switching the bulb to red and redding out the amber part with some clear red vinyl. In fact, I'm going to order me some red vinyl.

Re: Transparent paint

i'm gonna make a mold of it and make a new one using polyester casing resin.
so that there wont be the yellow amber section but clear, with a yellow bulb

I actually like this one. Not sure how effective his signals will be under the tint, but it looks good sitting still.

This has unbelievable amounts of fail. If I wanted my tail lights to look that bad I would skip the painting and just go sand blast them.

If this works out well, then you should make some more to sell. Seriously. Also, I think red bulbs would look nicer, and a bit more modern.

I agree. Just my personal opinion but you should just buff and polish the scratches out and make them look as good as new. I just cleaned and installed some used ones today and they made my car look much cleaner. Totally worth my time.

I need to pick up an extra pair of tail lights so i can still drive around.

Also hopefully tomorrow the first attempt at duplicating the SVX emblem should be cured.

Re: Transparent paint

Are you going to do the entire thing clear? And then paint over it in whichever color? Because I would just use the bulbs to provide the color, and leave the lenses clear. Otherwise, paint the inside of the lens. I think it would look better from the outside this way.

Re: Transparent paint

Ya i'll be painting them on the inside, i was looking into dye's but i would have to make 2 parts to separate the clear from the red. I dont want to leave it clear cause i dont like that "eurolite" or "altezza" look, if you want a clear set i could make you a set if want.

+1 if you want the altezza look, you should buy a Neon.

Yeah, they look disgusting, but in case of tinting the inner lens in red, the method can be useful.
