So I'm building a car in shop class...

Usually you you find people building things like coffee tables and bookshelves in shop class, but I like to challenge myself. This year, I'm making a replica of a 1947 MG TC race car. It will have mahogany cockpit and a spruce rib skeleton on the front and back covered by some kind of canvas.

I was originally planning to make it a pedal car big enough to fit me (6') but that would be insanely hard to pedal. So, I decided to go with a 6.5 horse Honda clone engine (which I am getting Saturday). and a 1 1/4 solid rear axle sported by base mount pillow block bearings (which I am ordering from McMaster Carr).

I am running into some road blocks though. Here is the list
-What type of wheel should I use? (this is my main struggle)
-What type of clutch/gear ratio should I use for average performance?
-What kind of steering mechanism should I use?
-What type of brake should I use?
-Should I use a keyed drive shaft or non keyed?

Attached is a list of the parts I am ordering
the list will go on as I get farther into the project...

when i was considering doing a similar project for my nephew i was planning on using polini motorcycle parts. they make those mini-moto things but are actually just miniature versions of super bikes not the cheap pieces you get at auto zone. they sell a viscous clutch that you can change the springs to get your desired speed without having to use gears. my brothers polini bike goes 45 mph and only has one gear. the wheels have a cable operated disc brake system on them so you could use. small motors typically spin to high enough rpms that you only need one gear unless you want to go crazy fast.

p.s. 45mph inches off the ground feels like 200mph
