sat night races

well i did the car cruzing and sat night race scene this weekend i kept the svx home and took my freinds eclipse, 95 turbo highly modified,, it was laid back night ,, too many cops, and a lot of riced out civics, but got to race a z28 ss but didnt do much ,, im shure the guy didnt know the eclipse had a 16g killer and hit 400 hp at the crank ether, but other wise it was a calm night,

Please keep the 'racing' to a track somewhere and off of public roads.

There are frequently stories in the news here about kids drag racing on Detroit streets. I remember one from October. There was footage on the news of two Mustangs drag racing in a 35mph zone. One loses control, veers onto the sidewalk and kills a pedestrian.

Somebody's mom, man.

Exercise some common sense and keep this crap off the streets, please.

yea street racing isnt the smartest thing

i go once in a blue moon out there, like every 4 months or so , im too old for that now, but every one has or does do it, its the car thing my dads done it, his dads done it,, ever since they invented a car theres been illegal racing, every one does stupid things, u can die anywhere i think ,, whene we go out to the street races,, where with the mature and real cars, there organized and every one knows each other, i go just to wach ,, its free and fun,, but pockets i do agree its not the smartest thing to do

I have mixed feelings about street racing.. in concept I think it's pointless, stupid and WAY too dangerous.. but when I pull up next to a riced-out four-cylinder who's inching up to the line on me, I JUST CAN'T HELP but open her up when it turns green.. However I will never go faster than 50 in rural areas. Even if I got a bad start and I know that if I can make it to 60 I can beat him, I won't let my speedo pass 50. Granted that's not saying much, but at least I can excercise SOME restraint.

On the highway I've been known to find a "buddy" with an equally-speedy car to cruise with at high speeds, but I would not define what I do on the highway as "racing."

When it comes down to the wire, street racing is childish, irresponsible, dangerous and just plain wrong. However, it is IMPOSSIBLE to go through life without being a hypocrite.

The cops in Philly broke up street racing Sat night and even impounded some cars.

There are plenty of ways to race legally around the Philly area.
Everyone who is serious about racing eventually leaves the street and gets on the track. Try bracket racing.

I went to street races in seattle last weekend, and I have to say that it wasn't really irresponsible. All the races took place on uninhabited streets and backroads. There really wasn't any danger to pedestrians, only to the people who were racing if they happened to lose control. but they do know the risk and if they are willing to take that risk they have the right to.

LarryIII 05-15-2002 04:53 AM

Alcyone.

The public roads are just that. PUBLIC ! Only if you close the roads off to the public should you race on them. If you don't close the roads there's always a chance (however slim) that someone will drive or walk, or bike onto them.
Remember serious racers use tracks.

it's now not just a ticket

Since the original poster was from FLA, I thought I would add in my $0.02.

The FLorida legislature has made it, effective 1 Oct 2002, a crime to drag race on the streets (before this law it was just a ticket for speeding or careless driving). I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that the law allows for impoundment of the vehicle, a minimum $250 fine (for first time - $500 for repeat), and I don't know what the jail limits are. Think the 3 fatalities of bystanders this year had something to do with it.

But hey, if you're looking for a performance vehicle....The Miami Herald reports that the FLA Highway Patrol gave out 150 tickets in a single street-racing sting operation last December (500 people were present)..... the state of Florida will be auctioning off lots of hot cars (and motorcycles) next year.

solarsvx 05-15-2002 07:15 AM

well i had my fair share of tickets and close calls back in the eclipse days,, every one has good pointes but older we get the less it intrests us,, 2 years ago i would die to go sat night, but now, ill go once in a while whene im bored and visit and wach old freinds, well also not having a fast car discorages it also ,, along with street racing it isnt cheap breaking, things, i snaped 2 trannys at the street races and 3 at the race track, i thought these word would never come out of my mouth but 380 hp out of a FWD eclipse is too much power, just wish i got the gsx,, but street racing will always hapen there wil find ways to avoid the cops our kids will do it and there kids will do it, ,, netherless we all take risks in life,,

as for take it to the track instead of the street only at the street races u can become a legend, its also easier to get a reputation for being fast more people wach also , as for the track it cost money and it has its own reputation,, and yes street races are free, but the tickets arent LOL ohh and your driving record

<<~~~ does not encorage street racing, take it to the track, t

The real competition is on the Track

The attraction to street racing is that it is illegal. But the real competition is on the track. It does not have to be expensive. The Oregon Region SCCA offers Solo II (autocross) and now rallycross! Autocross on grass or gravel. And then there are the street legal drags.

In both Solo and Autocross there is no need for a rollbar, harness, fire est. etc. Only you and a helmet that they provide!

So become a legend at the track, it carries more weight. Nobody believes those stories about how you beat this car and that car. But if you say you placed first at the track......

The voice of experience: When I was a Junior in High School, I hit a girl that went to school with me. She was not injured, It just knocked her down. I became very unpopular, very quickly. I became very poor, very quickly (The Lawyer and Fines). And worst of all I was reduced to driving an 83 ford escort 4 door. A brown one. Also I lost a lot of sleep over that deal becuase I could have killed someone.

Out here they usually race real late around factory locatons or way out towards the airport or other remote locations. still the cops always find out and break it up. I havent' went though. I really doesn't pay to speed. I haven't had a license for 2 years and still got another 7 months to go.
