I like how they have 3 different shades of white to pick from... Kinda weird.

Jen:)

Yeah man, this thing is going to look fierce in your rear view mirror. http://www.subaru.co.jp/r2/11/02/01_w1.html

not.

Isnt a 7-speed CVT a bit of a contradiction in terms? How does something like that work?

-Alex:confused:

Landshark 12-08-2003 08:07 PM

they can just keep that in Japan, thank-you very much!

arondale 12-08-2003 08:19 PM

well, if it is anything like the audi and bmw variants, yes... its a contrdiction. There are no gears.

7-speed??? thats a lot of shifting for a little motor.

Subaru needs to stop slapping their logo on hard-shelled golf-carts and start the development of the twin-turbocharged flat-6 supercoupe 2006 SVX to go head-to-head with the new 6-series BMW.

That should sell like hot cakes in European and Asian markets.

I once drove the previous model (Pleo) with the supercharger/CVT combination while my SVX was being serviced.

In normal mode the CVT has 'two steps', kind of like Lo and Hi. There is a dash switch to select the 'Sport' mode. In 'Sport' mode, it becomes like a 'Tiptronic' with a choice of 7 gears via steering wheel mounted buttons.

After one day the novelty had worn off, and I just left it in 'Normal' mode.:)

I think it's pretty neat. :)

Hi Paddlesnz, Is this one of those mini cars with like a 600 cc engine, or is it more like the Justy.which also had a CVT? Take care, BOBB

Seems to be light silver, lighter silver and white.

I like the choice of 3 different aromas though :(

The R2 is Subaru's new model in the Japanese 'Kei' class. There are many restrictions in this class, engine size is limited to 660cc, body size and engine output are also restricted.

The two biggest selling vehicles in Japan are both 'Kei' class vehicles (Suzuki Wagon R and Daihatsu Move), so it is an important class for manufacturers.

However, as they are normally bought as second cars by families, I think the new R2 is a bit too stylish for this normally conservative class.

With the 'aromotherapy' options on the R2, Subaru is trying to attract 'young female' buyers.

Time will tell if it is successful. But Subaru is on a 'high' at the moment here in Japan after they won the Japan car of the Year for the first time ever with the new Legacy, so.....

Does that car have a pull start?? I think it has a weedwacker engine under the hood??

Thanks paddlesnz for the site connection. I did not know that Subaru made all those cars. Are they all AWD? What is the story with the van? Is this the "larger" Subaru that's supposed to be coming to the USA?
