Front speaker needed

Hi guys, I have just found that my left (driver side) front speaker gone and new pair of original Subaru cost here 130 USD which is pretty expensive. Does anybody of you replaced original ones with other brand? Or does anybody has some spare one?
Thanx for info, Peter

Hi Peter,

Are you talking about the door speakers or the little tweeters on the dash?

I replaced our door speakers, it's quite easy. Take out the existing speaker, it has a mounting ring which is attached either by glue or spot welds. You have to separate the mounting ring and fit it to your new speaker.

Just take the mounting ring to a car stereo shop and find a speaker that will fit in it. 16cm diameter IIRC.

There are better instructions elsewhere on this site.

Phil.

Hi Phil,
yes it is left door speaker. Thnax for help, I thought that I need new original one because of housing so it is easy to replace and no need to spend too much now.
Thanx a lot once again, Peter

I did this lat year - replaced all 4 speakers for 2 and 3 way units bought off e-bay. Great sound now and quite easy to do

Hi Tony, Phill,
I look at it with my Scooby mechanic and he was afraid that if we remove old speaker and replace with new one there maybe some resonance so he proposed put between mounting ring and new speaker some kind of isolation ring. BTW how you put it together (mouting ring and new speaker). Thanx for help.

I drilled three small holes in the mounting ring and bolted it to the speaker. I haven't noticed any resonance. If you are worried, perhaps you could use some glue.

Phil.
