Speed Sensitive Steering

So this may be a simple to answer question, but could someone please explain how the speed sensitive steering works. It doesnt seem to be something that I notice while driving, but I assume that you have to turn the steering wheel less at higher speeds to turn the car?

No, it simply varies the power assist. At low speeds, the assist is high, so that the wheel turns easily while parking and such. At high speeds, there is little assist so that the car feels more natural and doesn't dart around. It is pretty seamless and you can't really notice it unless you drive an SVX with the engine sensing type. It is a pretty simple system that is pretty common place nowadays. Even cars like the camry have it, but it was pretty advanced back then.

"turn the steering wheel less" more correctly, turning the steering wheel requires less effort. The SVX power steering can be either road speed sensitive, or engine speed sensitive, depending on model.

A full explanation wound involve much wear in respect of my keyboard. :) In order to learn all that is involved, I suggest you use google.

Edit P.S. Did not intend to cross threads. You now remain doubly informed. :D

Hey, the Camry is getting pretty uppity, not the mundane grocery getter it was 15 years ago... The Scion xB has the same motor (2.4L) (The new one, the old xB has the 1.5L) and there is a supercharger available for it.. It's got a really long shaft on it, I'm waiting for one to come in with a broken shaft so I can shorten it and modify it to fit the SVX :-P
