differences for 4EAT - 4.11 vice 3.54
I've noticed the torque converter locks up at a lower road speed now, and holds it lower when slowing down. So I'm guessing TC Lock-up is input shaft speed dependent vice road speed - or is this an artifact of using a newer (98 Imprezza) tranny.
Have bought gas once, but forgot to record the mileage - now on my second tank of gas (and reset the trip odometer), will report back any difference in mpg. |
Lee,
I've been under the impression that the Imprezza TC has a smaller diameter than the SVX TC, which leads to the difference in lock up rpm. -Bill |
true the Imprezza TC is smaller, but I used the SVX TC, or did I misunderstand your intent?
|
Honestly, my SVX T/C locks up at the same speed in my Impreza 4EAT as it did in my former SVX 4EAT - 40mph. However, it does seem to remain locked for longer when slowing down and releases somewhere in the 30mph range...
-Chike P.S. My mileage is 21-22mpg mpg doing about 60% city driving, and 25 mpg in 85-90% highway. |

Stupid here
Call me stupid, but what do you mean by the TC lockin up?
I've changed my tranny to an Impreza one and had some problem with slippage at 6400 rpm. Changed my 90,000= spark plugs and O2 sensors and now she runs like a rapped ape.:D The shift it quick and smooth too. What a huge differance Steve |
The TC lock up is RPM related, not MPH related, so since you have lower final drive in it now, it makes sense that it'll lock up earlier, and stay in later...
It sure does make the SVX get off the line better with the 4.11's huh? |

Sorry, I didn't realize you were using the SVX TC. -Bill |
