Timing belt
When should the timing belt be changed on these cars and how much should I expect to pay for this to be done?

timing belt chould be changed every 60,000 miles.
Pirce I think around $400 but I'v never paid to have mine changed |
If you are going to do that, you should change the water pump, and a couple other things while yoiu are doing that. :) It is more cost effictive that way.

Im due for a timing belt and a new water pump. I was quoted at 712.00. I wish i could do it myself or could find somewhere cheaper.

The T-belt is not hard to change. Just nuts and bolts. The engine is not interference fit so you can't damage the valves if you get the timing of the belt off. The hardest part is removing the front crankshaft pulley bolt. If you don't have the four prong tool to hold the pulley you'll need something to stop the engine from turning over. You can use a strap wrench or stick something in the torque converter flex plate while loosening the bolt.
You'll save your self over $400, just the price of the belt...and your time. |
