JDM Prices

Hello.

It's me again. I finally have some prices for the JDM parts (including shipping to your door). The final list/prices can be found on my server at:
http://www.stars-gazer.com/~svx/marketing.html

Again, I need the funds for you by Dec 31, a week from now. That is one of the reasons why I prefer paypal.

If the first shipment goes well (like it did last time), I will try to order for you guys every month so if you miss it this time, I just want to let you know that there will be another order in a month or so.

Lwin

ps. if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at lwin@iit.edu

pps. I have given you the estimated shipping cost. Chances are it could go over a little. If it is a few bucks, it will be on me. If it is a huge amount, I will contact you. Since some of you ordering big items, I do not want to split the shipping charges equally since some are only ordering badges. I believe that is unfair to the people ordering lighter loads.

ppps (if exist) before sending your order by paypal, contact me on final $ amount and items you are ordering so that I can make a final list.

Awesome. I do have one complaint though: Why is it 18 dollars in shipping for the freaking hood badge? I mean... 35-45 bucks is a good price for the badge..but I can't understand why it would cost that much to ship. You could just stuff the badge inside an engine cover or something... ti doesn't make much sense to shipe everything seperately. If your japanese dealer could just shove the badges in with the rest of hte stuff wouldn't the shipping be a lot cheaper?

When items ship through the regular channels, US customs go through them. that cost money. If my dad was still working, he can ship small items to me using diplomatic pouch. Then customs will not look. If you are sending items via mail, customs will check period. If you go somewhere and come back, the customs at the airport will not do anything.

So do the individual shipping charges apply to every item, even if a person was to buy more than one? Like if I were to buy two emblems, would the shipping be $18x2?

Will this order all be done at one time and coming over to you Lwin, and then you will divide it up and send them out to each of us? That way it seems like maybe some of the shipping and imports fees, etc could be dissolved into the one big shipment. Not sure though, just thinking back to when I ordered some of this stuff from John Hoffman a while back.

(that was pre-Sept. 11 so maybe it made a difference)

The items that I bought from Japan over the past year seem to follow a pattern. Different items in different boxes. For example, two emblems in the same box with a single customs declaration, but a stereo in a separate box by itself with its own declaration.

You could probably go to the US customs web site (I'm sure they have one) to find out exactly, but I believe non-container shipping must be individually declared.

I can tell you that you don't need to worry about Lwin's policies. I'm sure he will find the most productive way to get the stuff here at the most reasonable price he can. I've never known him to take the easy way out or to try and gouge anyone to make a buck.

I'll back Doug up on what he just said. While I was curious on the way importing rare items from Japan works, I have no doubt that Lwin is going about this with all our best interest in mind. He's a stand up guy. :)

Seraph 12-23-2002 05:14 PM

First off, thank you Doug and Troy.

Let me do some calculations for those of you that are curious.

Let's look at the $50 Badge. The actual price of the badge is 4030 JPY. How did the 4030 JPY which is equal to $34 become a 50 dollar piece?

There is a comission fee that Japan Import Services charges me. Well, that charges goes to everyone. That is a percentage of the order. It varies from 5% to 12.5% depending on the total cost of the item. If the item is over 1,000,000 yen ($8333), we get to enjoy the 5% commission fee. And as it turns out, we are not ordering anywhere close to 8500 dollars worth of stuff so we end up paying 12.5%. So, that would be 35 * 12.5% + 35 = 40.

Now, I have to pay shipping for the item from Japan to my house and from my house to your home. EMS is the quickest and cheapest shipping they have. That and USPS priority to your house makes up the remaining 10 dollars.
Thus, 50 for the part from Japan. As you can tell, I am not making a single dime (and chances are I may even have to dig in my own pocket). Like I have said, for heavier items, I may contact the buyer if the shipping charges adds up a little more than what I have noted.

About a year ago when I got the JDM Badge from John Hoffman, I paid him 65 Dollars. What I am giving you all is the same badge at 50. You all can do the calculations as well.

Hope this clears things up.

Lwin

To answer Troy's question of shipping charges for two emblems would still be at 18x2. That is due to the above calculation.

:)

I would like to thank Lwin for doing this service for us. It takes a lot of time, and it is not easy to do. Especially when we are not close to each other and sometimes communications are not the best. He is not the only one that spends lots of time for this network. That is what makes this wonderful place work. Dedicated members who do it willingly and most of their actions are not seen. They just do it for the good of group. :) ;) :) Thank You.

I know Lwin is a productive guy, I just did't see how it would 18 bucks when you could just send the thing in an envelope. :|

Rob,

You are more than welcome to get the same piece from Dayle (Motorsports warehouse). I believe he charges 65 + shipping. And I am NOT making a dime.

That is sooo sweet.

Did you have an exhaust leak into your car on the way home to give you this happy feeling?

Lwin: Read my response again, it was past tense. I understand now, its all cool. :) The thought never even crossed my mind that you were making money on this deal, I just thought it wasn't efficient or something.
