Hi All,
I have been lurking for about a week after migrating over from Yahoo. What a great site and community. Not only did I buy a car, but as a bonus I got support team to help keep her going!

After much research, about three weeks ago I purchased a 92 claret LSL with 133,000 miles. (Even though I originally wanted white) This is a very well maintaned one owner car, and I even have all of the maintenance records!! Tranny was replaced at 60000, brakes are good and 2 wheel bearings have been replaced amoung other things like sunroof switch, plugs, belts, valve cover gaskets. Overall I feel that I have a solid car, except for one thing ....
.................................................. .................................................
you guessed it ................. the tranny.
The most noticable thing is the hesitation between 2nd and 3rd. The proposition of replacing my tranny right now is a bit scary.(don't have the cash) But I do feel a bit better knowing that I can gain from all of your experiences. (please see other post for more specific transmission questions, thanks)

Ken,
Welcome to the Network. We'are happy you're here. The Network began as a hopeful replacement for all other SVX online "clubs" -- a single source for all SVXers, owned and maintained by SVXers, for SVXers. I'm glad you finally found your way here. I began my "adventure" on the Yahoo site.

As for the tranny deal, is your shift a "hold" or a "flare?" In other words, do your RPM's stop at a certain point and drop after the shift, or do the RPM's "flare" (increase a few thousand) before the shift? If it's just a "hold" then, it's usual. The 2-3 usually likes to hold on a little longer than the others. I know the 1-2 in my car has always been a bit abrupt, but the 2-3 (when it hasn't flared -- long story) has always seemed to hold on longer than the others, especially under load.

Best of luck. Believe me, nobody has the cash to fix one of these trannies when they go, but, somehow we manage to do it and go on. Keep her on the road. There are too few of them around to begin abandoning them.

hold vs. flare

Randy,

I would say it is more of a "hold". My RPMs don't shoot up or anything. So maybe it will last a while. I feel better.

Welcome Ken

There is more information here than you can believe. It is a great site with many more options that the yahoo site. You can search for topics which is a big help when you have a specific problem or question. Good luck, and enjoy. Have you registered your car yet on the registry? Go to www.subarusvx.org and register if you have not yet. This site is great too.:)
