stone chip

i have a stone chip in my windshield
it was there when i got it, but i thought it was just an old crack that they fixed, because it was so small, and it was all but smooth on the outside of the glass, well yesterday in the light i looked at it and it's actually a chip on the outside, and the INSIDE is where the cracks are, it's a small spidercrack, but i don't want it to get bigger, how easy is it to repair the glass, the inside glass, near the bottom edge of the windshield... i don't think that those glass repair things from walmart or whatever will reach that part of the glass....

You're screwed. I had a bolt or something nail my windshield about 4 months ago (maybe 5). It started as a crack about an inch long. I called my insurance, and they said they'd pay for autoglass specialists to 'repair' my windshield. WEll, they 'repaired' it and now the crack is about 13-15" long coming from right behind my rear view mirror and going completely sideways. Luckily, I don't really see it since it's in the 'tinted portion' of the windshield. I'm just going to wait a year or two until I can afford full coverage, and then ahve my insurance company foot the bill. :)

hmmmm....
that's not promising, i hear these windshields are expensive

how expensive is the L windshield, the one w/o the coating on it

Seraph 04-03-2003 07:42 AM

L from SOA is around 600 and coated ones are 900.

But you can probably have the L as low as 150 from a junkyard.

If the chip hasn't started to spread to much you should be able to call a windshield repair company (Safelite or something like that) and have them come to your home or business to fix it. You might want to check with your local Subaru dealer about getting it fixed. Alot of dealerships have guys come to there lots to fix chips in windshields. I know we do. It should cost around 40 to fix it but I would get it done now so it doesn't spread any more.

I received a chip in exactly teh same spot as Nomad on my windshield. I took it to a windshield shop in Lancaster. They repaired it, and it is fine... a year later. (Happedn on my way to reading last year.)

Because not only would it be lying but technically it would be insurance fraud. Most God fearing folk would consider this a sin, hence the nervous statement. Just like a criminal gets nervous when people start mentioning the police or when police are near by.

You asked...

Dont worry, Rob... I didn't get it either.

Steve and Johnny, I don't think that was needed, IMHO.

Hrm. My retort: You know what I consider fraud? Being a young male and paying OUTRAGEOUS insurance rates when I'm an extremely attentive, careful driver for years and years. The ONLY accident I've ever been in was the one in my SVX just a few months ago, and that was when some lady literally drove into the back of my car. So lets see, I've been paying them over 2000 a year since I was 16... that's almost 10,000 dollars... and for what? For them to say "oh, no, we'll pay for 200 dollars of the windshield, but we won't pay full price to replace it " Yeah. Gee. Real fair. And I wasn't nervous, I just think disagree with a lot of Christian ideas, and I don't believe it's true at all, so when people talk about it I get irked.

PS: This is my opinion, and I'm not asking anyone to be quiet or anything like that, so carry on, and let's talk about windshield cracks. :D

Rob,

What insurance company do you have?

Seraph 04-03-2003 05:02 PM

I have one of those needle things that firemen use to smash windows. You can borrow it. I am serious too. ;)
L

ps. the insurance prices will increase though both for you and others.
