Who's got gas?
A report on Reuters states that U.S. fuel inventories are at their lowest level since 1967. I found premium fuel for sale yesterday ($40 limit, pay inside only) for the first time since Hurricane Ike. Many stations in this region have no fuel at all, or are getting short rations, mostly regular only, and selling-out rapidly.
Are supplies this sketchy across the country? dcb |

Re: Who's got gas?
We have had a few discount gas stations around here (middle Tennessee) with no gas or they only have regular unleaded, prepaid of course. Gas is around 3.59-3.79 range if you can find it.

Re: Who's got gas?
Surprisingly, prices here aren't bad (relatively speaking). My usual station went from a high of $4.159 (cash/regular) the weekend Ike hit, to $3.739 this morning. But still no midrange or premium. I passed several stations this morning, all of which have bagged pump handles. A station in the parking lot of the largest supermarket in town has had not a drop of juice for a week.
The same thing happened in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but prices spiked higher then, and the supply issues passed quickly, and never really affected this immediate area at all. The lack of fuel reserves and fragility of the refining and distribution network is worrisome. We'd be in real fix if a category 5 storm were to hit the Gulf coast today. dcb |
Re: Who's got gas?
Our fuel went from 1.36/L to 1.47/L overnight last week. It stayed like that for a couple days then dropped to 1.26/L.

Re: Who's got gas?
Up here in Wisconsin its dropped over 30 cents in the last 2 weeks:)

Re: Who's got gas?
$3.679 for 93 octance here.
No problems with stations being out of fuel either. Houston is only a 3 hour drive from me. Dustin |

I believe our premium is down from ~$4.30 to ~$3.90, but I can't tell for sure, because I rarely look at the pump for the price, what with being a captive audience and all. :( |
Re: Who's got gas?
I really should get gas... It's been so long I don't remember what I last paid. Still, it's pricy, 2 weeks ago I put $98 in my expedition, $42 in my Legacy, and $50 in my SVX(Premium). I figure, rotate cars, fill up less often! except, when they're all out of gas at the same time, it's $200~ to fill them... I like to keep the expedition full though, in case **** hits the fan, I can load everything in it, and make it to canada in one tank.

Re: Who's got gas?
My usual station (a Marathon) had no gas for sale this morning. Crazy. The distribution network must be totally maxed-out under normal circumstances. Maybe this is the new "normal."
