Help me start my SVX!
 

Hi everyone!

It was -40 degree this morning. The car doesnt want to start because of the cold weather and after 5-10minutes of trying everything to make it start, a gas smell was hanging around.

I'm pretty sure that I gas flooded my engine. It really dont want to start. Is there anyway to burn that gas and make the car start? Maybe removing the injector fuse or wathever.. I was looking for that fuse but I can't find it.

Please help me with that one, I can't miss work tomorrow too..

unplug the fuel pump and give it a few turns (try to start it)
plug the connector back in with the car off...

after 10 minutes come back and snap the air filter house open,
spray starting fluid into the intake tube and reseal the the air box.

Start her up and give a little bit of gas for a minute until it holds idle

If you have a block heater in yours, plug it in.

Yes I have a block heater, I just plug it like you told me.

As for the gas pump, do I need to go under the back seat and unplug the wire that goes to the gas tank?

Is there any gas pump fuse in the engine bay? That would be easyer..

I would recommend keeping it plugged in on -40 nights, even -20 nights.

Thats what I'm gonna do for sure now. I'm used to 1980's Toyota that starts even at -4307698476.

So is anyone can teach me how to unplug the fuel pump?

by now i'm sure the gas is gone, unless you've somehow hydrolocked it...

but for future, the plug is under the silver plate under the carpet that attaches to the back of the rear seat

I did not know the SVX had a block heater plug. Where is it located? Do you use a special cable for it?

Every things is under control.. It took about 1 minute of cranking before it starts and 1 minute of assisted idle to make it run smoother by itself.

I really thank you guys, it was easy beacuse I just let the gas evaporate.

It was a factory option, probably standard on Canadian cars. The chord for mine is currently coiled and sitting in front of the battery. I'm not sure if you can put one into the car if there isn't already one:confused:

it just replaces one of the plugs on your block. should be simple bolt in and replace some fluid.

It's been one complete week now since the car had those little starting problems.

Two days ago, I drove 4hours away from home to spend some times with my family for the new year.

The weather was fine (about -4). So I drove 4 hours non-stop, parked the car for the night, plugged it to be safe, then, 12hours after, the car would'nt start.

I tried everything to make it start during my 2 days of vacation! The starter is cranking well and every thing seems normal. Except that it wont start even after a minute of cranking.

A weird thing is that there was no gas smell from the engine like the other time when I gas flooded the car. Even after cranking it for 1-2 minutes, there was no gas smell.

My svx have 170 000km, this is her first winter since almost 7 years, orginal fuel sustem and spark plugs.

Is there anything that come to your mind to help me saving some money guys? The 4hrs towing was pretty expensive and now the car is in my driveway.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
