Cam angle sensor repair!!!!!

I was under the impression 2 days ago that all my car needed was a fresh set of spark plugs and it would be all set...I was still getting the cam angle sensor code. Took the cam angle sensor out and it wasn't getting any signal. We took it apart and found a tiny tiny wire inside the sensor was burnt out....so...we soldierd it and checked it again...SIGNAL!!! Put her in and my cars good as new! So...my cars fixed and i saved $150!!

How easy it the sensor to get to and what type of symptoms did your car have?

Thanks!!!!!!

The sensor takes about 2 seconds to get out. The symptoms were skipping, rough idle, backfiring and stalling.

This thread was just what the doctor ordered. My '92 would only idle very poorly, the instant I'd step on the gas it would die. I pulled the codes and the only one that came up was 13...cam angle sensor. I pulled it out, then apart and found one of the hair size wires was broke. Soldered it back on, reassembled and fired it up. It ran better but would only go up to 2500 rpm then stall.

Not wanting to spend $150+ on a new one I headed to the junk yard. I found that just about all fuel injected subies use very similar crank and cam angle sensors. I pulled several, put a bunch in my pockets and paid for one...$10. There are two types, one with a connector and one hard wired. The connector may be farther up the harness but I didn't check. I cut several inches of wire off each sensor lead as I pulled them.

I ended up installing a sensor off a '95...don't remember which model. I cut the old connector off and soldered on the '95 connector. Put it all back together and after some initial roughness it smoothed out. Since I had disconnected the battery I warmed it up and ran it through the relearn procedured. Purrs like a kitten now.

I coulda sent out a general distress call but then I'd still have an AWD paperweight in my driveway waiting for the postman to show up. No worries, she's running good and I have a virtual limitless supply of those expensive little suckers.

i looked up the part #'s... the obd1 cam and crank sensors are a match to each other in the legacy, impreza, and svx.
