soon to be back in a SVX again

Looks like I am probably going to end up back into a SVX again.
This time it will be a 97.

will update soon. Anyone selling a factory 97 front grill, and a hood?
thanks, going to need those things for starts.

Grills can be had from Subaru (not cheap) but very seldom from fellow SVXers or ebay and maybe listed on ebay for an Alcyone.

yeah unless the grille is tucked away in the trunk, and if it is busted up and there I still am going to need one.
polo green would be terrific.
also going to need a hood, and keep my fingers crossed on anything else.
97 LSi polo #290......

anyone interested in buying a polo green scoop ? :(

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

I am looking to have someone provide me some measurements for a SVX that has never been wrecked in the front.
This is the picture from auction on the one I have on the way. It was smacked dab center, high, above the bumper but into the upper radiator support.

When I redid my CR-Z with similar hit, I just went to the dealer with a tape measure and pad pad of paper at drew out the schematics/distance measured from the upper shock tower bolts, and some of the fender bolts, to the front radiator core support, brackets to hold the radiator in place, left and right, criss cross, etc.

I can't simply go to the dealer, or anyone around here to compare.
someone that has some free time, and wants to earn my brownie points, give me some measurements......thanks

I realize, that once I get a good hood, i can fit it to the latch, but I want to be as close to factory measurements, and I do this with a come along, some metal brackets/metal bars, and lots of patience. My BRAT or a tree usually serves as anchor point for the come along, that way the vehicle I pull is in one spot, I can just maneuver that BRAT around for different pull angles.....

Been there and done that when my daughter hit a boat trailer with my '92. Got it fixed up with a new hood and then hit a deer on the way to the hospital when my wife broke her knee cap (not with a baseball bat) 6 months later. Did it again.

I would love to help with measurements but, not sure where to start. Blacky, what a bad luck story.

Check the manual: http://www.phantomotaku.com/SVX/MSA5...d_exterior.pdf

From page 48 on the body datum points are explained in detail and the required dimensions are given.

I think all you need is there, the small 5mm hole you see on the front valance (radiator support) is one of the datum points.

If you need any other specific measurements just let us know - you have our support !

Good luck,

Tapani

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

Thank you much Tapani. That link is what I need.

fig 84, shows the points. looking at 41.26 inches from major datum to the center core..........I will be able to make use of that diagram...

even though the pic looks like too me it's not that severe, in the past, my experience it is always worse off than you plan it to be, always plan for much more damage than you can hope for......so more cost to repair.

Hopefully the car will get here by next week......

It's been about 4 years since I have been on here with a SVX. Wasn't there someone local to me in WI that had a bunch of SVX parts and always parting? Guess, I will hope some of the yards around here that back in the day had some, still have parts......maybe this rebuild will be more challenging than I am ready for.

My 04 Outback that was hit in front, was a sway/side hit and it pushed everything one way, whereas this one looks direct center, which I am hopeful that is the case...alot easier to deal with.

My first SVX was a 92 ls-l, which I wish I would have researched a little more before I got it. I did research enough to find one with a replaced trans, bearings, etc. But, it had its share of issues (security module wouldn't learn a new fob, air bag light would be lit unless it was a warm day, and the replaced trans had a strange thing, among other things)

So, I will hopefully be a little bit more happy with a 97 lsi, and maybe won't have a huge ton of money in it to be fearful of it getting a few scratches, door dings, etc when it is left in a parking lot.

Grille was behind the front seat.
overall decent. Motor was smooth and quiet but has exhaust leak up front somewhere.....
washed it, removed the seat covers, checked oil and atf etc.

got my work ahead........
