Network Numbers

Checking through the new numbers, I'm glad to see another membership "spurt." Over 5K posts, and almost 500 threads. I think this thing's going to catch on. I haven't checked lately, but, do we come up, say, on a Google search when people enter a search for Subaru SVX. If not, how can we get it to happen? Just wondering.

Google's got us!

I went to Google.com and typed in SVX CLUBS and there we are, 5th from the top. Tried askjeeves and John's subarusvx.com site came up but not ours.

The way to do it is to put SVX and what not and all the info related in the meta tags of the webpages created. Also, you can go and register the SVX pages with the sites like yahoo, altavista, excite, etc. My personal webpages from god only knows when show up even now when I search for my name on Google.

Happy Googling!

Trying to get on the search engines

Trying to get your site at the top of the search engines can take a while. I know, trying to get mine to the top of the charts has been an ongoing task. Usually you have to submit the site address and then wait a month or more for the search site to update to the most recent information.

The main search engines use a combination of ways to rank the sites when you do a search. They are ranked by:

1. the meta tag keywords

2. if the search words are on the page (but they have filters to weed out sites that have the same words listed over and over so you can't get to the top by putting "SVX SVX SVX SVX SVX SVX...")

3. the number of OTHER sites that link to your site

4. the number of people who have searched for the keyword and clicked on your site from the results...basically your site's popularity.

5. probably some other things too.

The bottom line is it can take months and many resubmissions to get your site on a search engine. But don't submit the site multiple times...their computers will see this as a spam tactic and will remove the site. You have to wait at least a month between site submissions if you find that they haven't added you.
