water in headlights
 

Since I was in a head-on collision I have a problem with water in my front lights, on one side it's so bad that the beam is barely visible, the other has mild condensation. My mech says the seal is busted and recommends replacing the front lights at a cost of $900 (about 350 for each light, plus labor). Granted, it's not my money (I didn't cause the accident) but 900 seems a little steep. Is it possible to reseal these things? Would the clear headlight kit from small car be a replacement option?

So $700 in parts and $200 in labor??? That's kind of...a lot, if you ask me.

Anyway, if you're careful about it, you can reseal the headlights. There may be a how-to for taking them apart in the (go figure) how-to locker.

As for the small car kit, the kit itself wouldn't solve your problem, but the same process for taking them apart would be involved - so you may solve your leaking problem at the same time.

After driving in the rain one of my lights has enough water to keep a goldfish happy, the other just has a lot of condensation. and I can watch the water drip into the side light (next to the goldfish-ready light), but the water doesn't build up or fog much.

Are you sure that the plastic lenses on the headlights aren't just cracked, letting water in? You did have an accident, you said - anyimpact hard enough to damage the seal could have broken those lenses just as easily.

I'd think about the headlite clear lens replacement. It's a lot cheaper, the light is better if you have even a little haze to your lenses and the clear covers are attached with silicone sealant so should keep out the water. See pix of mine in my locker.

If your casing for the headlights is cracked, then this may not help. try to see where the water is entering. Don't leave them wet for long, the reflectors are front-silvered and will start to turn dark from the moisture and dirt

if you're not paying for it then why not get the new headlights and sell the old ones?? New ones look like glass!
