mis-firing / loudness... couple questions

Hey guys,

This morning I turned my car on, and right from the start the car started tremebling oddly... It is mis-firing / not firing on all cylinders - there is of course a loss of power due to this, and the car sounds like some 1960's muscle car - kind of like put, put, put, put. I guess one of the catalytic converters got shot through this process as well...

I did a little bit of hard driving yesterday, just some long accelerations on the highway, but nothing lasting more then 25 - 30 seconds really. I'm assuming this was the catalyst for the problem.

Anyone else experienced anything like this- and I guess the main question is, is this a major problem to fix in terms of money? I'm not a mechanic so will have to take the car in somewhere.

Anyone know a good mechanic I should go to in Portland, OR?

Thanks a lot folks,
Eric
