Winter Snowcross Event #1

MCO's (Motorsports Club of Ottawa) first Snowcross event is this Saturday. WOO!!!!

I have no real racing experience, and really not much more than standard parking lot fun in the snow, so I'm mainly going to be there as a spectator. Maybe though, just maybe, the SVX will hit the track at some point. In either case I'll be sure to take some pictures and post them.

There are 5 snowcross (or Slush 'n' Slide as it used to be called) events during the winter, as well as a series of winter driving schools. I'm signed up for the advanced performance winter driving school at the end of February, which should be an absolute blast.

HOLY CRAP was that ever fun!!!!!:D:D:D:D

I ended up doing 5 runs on 2 different course configurations, and actually scoring half-decently. I figured I'd be hugely off the pace, but I didn't do too bad in the end.

My girl earned a lot of respect from me today, and from the other racers. A couple of the folks from the Ottawa Subaru Club asked me what time I'd run, knowing it was my first time out. When I told them they were pretty surprised. I never hit a snowbank (many people did, several requiring a tow out), never spun, although I scared myself a bit a couple times.

Once the times and some pictures from the event are posted I'll put up a link.

I can't wait to do this again!!!

Results are in!

I'm car #46. I guess the timing guy was so used to writing WRX that I got that instead of SVX.

I placed 9th in AWD out of 29 cars, beating out all the STi's too. Not too bad for a rookie I think:D:D:D

All of the times written in blue are DNF's. A DNF gets you your slowest time + 15 seconds. Things that earn a DNF are going off course, needing to reverse out of a snowbank, requiring a tow (obviously). You can see that slightly slower, but clean runs will get you into the points.

I'll have pics soon.

Bridgestone Blizzak Revo-1, 205/55/16. They have unbelievable traction. I couldn't believe how late I could brake before going into the corners and make it through fine.
