Leather treatment???
I have some leather seats that are geting dry and hard, any pointers on what works best to soften them up? Not just make them wet, but actually make them supple again???

I use leather conditioner... Put it on at least once a month and seats should stay in good condition. Might help the seats get better....
Tried many brands, no noticable differences. |
My seat care home brew: Unscented (medicinal) mineral oil and leather-scent candle oil, mixed roughly 3/1. Dab on a soft cloth and buff in. Doesn't look wet of feel oily, if you're thorough. And it's ultra-cheap.

Leatherique is the best product, nobody comes close (IMO).
www.leatherique.com for cheaper & easier to source, you might try Lexol products if you want to look around and read contrasting opinions try here: www.autopia.org/forums |
I would agree with Lee on the products and links. :)

Personally I like plain old saddle soap. It's been around for eons, probably for good reason. I know enough people that have saddles worth more than a lot of cars and they still swear by it, sooo... (expensive horsey- type country around here)

Ive used
a product called Hide Food for yrs, recommended
by the Jaguar dealer |
I agree with what Beav said. I too know many people with saddles that are worth more than most cars and they swear by Saddle Honey. Clean the seats real well and lightly buff the saddle honey on, leave it sit overnight, and buff any remaining off the next day.

I'm reminded of some catalog copy I read years ago for a leather satchel that advised the buyer to avoid all manner of creams, lotions and potions, clean the article with only a damp cloth, and it would "outlast us all." Age, mileage, climate, weight of the occupants, abrasive soils, spills, pets... all these likely have more to do with the condition of a car's leather seats than the brand or type of leather treatmant used.
