Stock struts or Konis?
 

I think my SVX has Koni insert because I have a white knob that adjusts the firmness of them. The guy I bought it from didn't say anything about this though, how can I make sure I have the Koni inserts or not?

Jack up the car and pull the wheels off... You should be able to see the inserts easily once removed...I believe they are yellow?

I just cranked the wheel all the way and tried to look w/ out taking the wheel off but if it is Konis they're reallllly dirty.

The stock struts are not adjustable in any way. If your struts have small projections on the top of the struts that mate with the white knob you have mentioned, you have Koni inserts.

Actually dude those little knobbie things are the sign of a horrible strut. I wouldn't drive with them. Please PM me, I can trade you some nice condition stock struts for them, that way you'll be much safer. :P

Dude, there's no way they're unsafe to drive otherwise they wouldn't be in the carand have the white knob that fits perfectly on the top of the strut. Unless you're making a joke I don't see why you would want to rip me off by trading me stock struts for my "unconfirmed" Konis.

Im pretty sure he is trying to convince you to give him your konis for stock struts:D

The Koni's are the only ones I know of with the adjusting knob. If you do a search on this site you'll find the directions on firmness adjustments. I've seen it but can't remember who posted it.:rolleyes:

You can't see them from the bottom as they are inside the old strut housing. They are bight yellow. You may be able to see the top of them if you jack the car up so you get full extension of the strut.

Thanks for the link...while we're on the subject, when driving and I go over a tiny pothole or some type of imperfection in the road there's a wacky sound coming from the suspension. It kinda sounds like metal on metal. Like it sounds a little loose and it's jiggling in place. Could it be a rubber bushing on the springs that's worn away? The ride quality isn't bad it's just a little noisy.

There is a supposed to be a rubber between the spring and the mount at the bottom, but I can't see that sounding like metal on metal because of the load. I would think it should be more of a creak or groan.

I had a knocking sound when my Konis were first installed which I finally put down to the old strut tower not being cut down enough. I must admit though that I'm not certain of this because I also replaced the inserts at the same time with new ones under warranty.

i was trying to figure out what it was yesterday and it's the same sound like when I go over "rippled pavement" like said in the link you gave me. The strut itself sounds like its not tightened all the way in there and wheneve it's used more it rattles around.
