You have to remove the drivers side cam gear to get the rear timing cover off, which covers the front of the water pump and the bolts that secure it.

Oh. I thought you were supposed to break the rear timing cover to get the pump off.:confused:

Yeah on your car you just rip it out of there with a big pair of channel-locks..... on all other SVXs you have to remove other stuff first....

Ohhhh. See, now that makes more sense.

On a side note, my neighbor owns Channellock (the company). At least I'm supporting him and his two new Audis.

Thankyou.
I was able to get the crankshaft pulley off.
I confirmed that the water pump bearing is defective and the cause of the squeek. The timing belt and other idles lookand feel OK. Is it common to replace the timing belt when changing the water pump?
Also I noticed that one of my camshaft positions sensors has a large dent in its end. I have had intermittent camshaft error codes and I want to replace this sensor while apart. Any sujestions on a supply for the camshaft position sensor?

Usually the water pump is replaced when the belt is done.:)
The cam position sensor, on the left side, is the same as a 90-98 Legacy cam/crank sensor.

Harvey.
