They're threaded onto the end of the rack. The large barrel at the end of the rack is the tie rod joint and it attaches to the rack by threads. I haven't done, or don't remember doing, inners on an SVX but typically there's a washer between the end and the rack, folded over to act as a safety lock. It's not very strong so don't worry about unfolding it. You'll need an inner tie rod socket (recommended) or a large wrench, channellock pliers, etc. to undo the end. Safe and recommended practice is to use a crescent wrench across the teeth of the rack to absorb the counter-torque when loosening - allowing the pinion to bear the load is a no-no (although most mechanics do it that way - they have a better 'feeling' for how much torque stuff can take before breaking. It comes from many years of breaking stuff ... ;) )
