2005 Legacy 2.5GT thread!
Well, I'm becoming Scooby-whipped more and more each day (especially after the wild ride in the STI earlier this week), and I'll be sticking with this brand on my next car (still admire the Volvo S60R, C32 AMG and MazdaSpeed 6 though...).
I've been finding some pretty sweet deals on low mileage (<5K miles) 2.5GT's (non-limited) on Autotrader and Ebay for around $22K, and by the end of this year, I should be able to pick one up for $19,9K. This afternoon, I went with Andrew (AmazonParrot) and his friend Michael to our local Scooby dealer to check out an '05 Atlantic Blue 2.5GT in person - simply an amazing design with beautiful lines and a muscular stance rolled into one. The hood scoop is very subtle, and the 17" alloy wheels fit the car perfectly! On the www.legacygt.com/ forum, members with 5MT 2.5GTs are running 13.9-14.2 bone stock, and Cobb Tuning already offers an Access Port chip upgrade for $600 that boosts wheel horsepower from 200 (stock) to ~225 (over 280hp at the flywheel). Hopefully, I'll be the proud owner of one in 10 months or less... ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...or1/666nut.jpg http://slingblade.fccj.edu/~bfair/lg...r/rearhalf.jpg http://slingblade.fccj.edu/~bfair/lgt/smaller/front.jpg http://www.franzfx.com/legacy/7-17-04/legg10.JPG -Chike |

I'll refer you to the S60R thread you made back in August:

(She ended up buying an 04 Accord EX V6 though. Very nice car with plenty of power, but its definitely not as fun as the Legacy 2.5GT was) |

The base Legacy 2.5GT weighs just 3300lbs according to Subaru - less than the Evo MR and '05 STI (which has the front limited slip). With the simple addition of Cobb's $600 chip, I'll have a 'mature' version of the STI capable of running upper 13's @ 100mph. http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...5/030041-E.jpg http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...5/030042-E.jpg http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...5/030043-E.jpg http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...5/030050-E.jpg Must say, one thing that's interesting to me is the performance of the Forester XT compared to this car. In one thread on the legacygt forum, two friends went to the strip with a 5MT Legacy 2.5GT and 5MT Forester XT - the XT was consistently 0.2 seconds faster all night and ran a best of 14.2 compared to 14.4 for the Legacy (hot, humid conditions). Guess the 4.44 gearing in the XT adds some extra pep over the 4.11's in the 2.5GT... ;) -Chike |
New vs Used debate...
My wife believes in buying cars new to reward manufacturers for bringing excellent products to market. She's a loyal Mitsubishi owner and we bought her Lancer ES new in '02 and will buy a new awd Endeavor XUV she wants later this Fall.

At this point, the difference between a new and used 2.5GT (cloth interior) is roughly 4 grand. Is paying 4 grand extra really worth it in the long run? -Chike |

Still, I don't think you're mom will go wrong with this color choice! http://images.auction123.com/A123IH/...bimage001s.jpg http://images.auction123.com/A123IH/...bimage001s.jpg http://images.auction123.com/A123IH/...bimage001s.jpg -Chike |
A few Obsidian Black pics...

Chike,
This is the model I saw when I was down in D.C. last weekend, but it had STI badges and no 2.5GT badges or rear spoiler....wonder if it was a 2006 model? -Bill |

We all know a Legacy STi would kick serious butt. Just have to get SOA to get going. What are the latest hp numbers from the JDM B4 Legacy? Does it still use the EJ20? I like the black, but do you have any of the Atlantic Blue? I think Ken's is darker. I would also like a rear spoiler. Not STi-ish, but something.
