SVX Windshield

I am trying to sell my car here in Phoenix, and there is someone interested in buying it, but they said in order to pass emissions the windshield needs to be replaced(Big crack in it)

He looked into getting a new one, but found that they are $1,000!!!!! The person at the dealership told him it was a special kind of windshield and bla bla bla... Is this true that if I needed to get it replaced it would cost me more than $1,000, or is the dealership wrong. And, can I get it from some glass company, or do I really have to get it from a dealership?
I mean, thats about as much money as I'm asking for my car!. I'm not paying $1,000 to fix it, to sell the car for $1,000

no glass coverage in your insurance?

A new windshield from Subaru does cost approx $1,000. Aftermarket glass companies used to sell a cheap replacement, but as far as I know only Subaru dealerships selll them now. Your only other option is to pick up a used one.

Dave

This is why I highly recommend all owners get glass insurance!

I'll make a note to never move to Arizona while owning a subaru. That's complete BS why they charge 1k to replace the windshield. Now maybe if it was bulletproof, then I can understand the price.

That is subaru's price, not Arizona's.
It will cost you the same for a new one anywhere.

I understand that.....Subaru charges a fortune for everything. You think I thought Arizona emissions charged 1k? lol No...I'm just saying it's better to not have a defective Subaru in Arizona though.

There is one on ebay right now. The bid is at $250.00.
Unfortunately, he is in Western North carolina and will not ship. Local pickup only :(

Aaaaand you still don't make any sense.

Deja, unfortunately the windshield really is that expensive. A cracked one won't fail an 'emissions' test because that sort of test examines the gasses coming from your car's exhaust. A cracked windshield will, however, fail most safety inspections. Not all states have these inspections, and most I've encountered are a racket.

That being said, it's not really safe to drive around with a cracked windshield. It's not nearly as strong as a windshield that's intact.

My guess is that a used windshield is going to be difficult to come by, but it should still be cheaper. Still, if you're only selling the car for a grand, then tell the potential buyer to deal with it or move on. It's not worth arguing when you're selling a car that cheap.
