My car is having issues with me. We can't even talk anymore.

My car was burglarized/vandalized in my parking garage the other day (along with 5 others, and 1 car actually stolen!). The center console where i had a nice deck was ripped out-- along with all of the innards, basically breaking the console. Snapped the door off. They also managed to break my antenna off? That's just rude.

I had some people who claimed to know how to hook a stereo up try and put one in the car- they completely freaked out the electrical system on it. the interior lights (all of them) will TURN OFF if you hit one of the spots or room light buttons. its wierd. its like these kids wired buttons wrong.

Does anyone have any ideas on what these fools did to my car?

Sorry to hear that, some people have the Passion to do such things

maybe when the deck was stolen some wires were stretched out and the rubber has opened out some holes for the copper wires to ground.....and/or by chance the peoples that supposedly knew nothing f:mad: cked the car even more......

sounds like a short.....well...more like wires touching....
does anything work at all when the buttons are turned on? (spot/room)

........i wish i could take a look for you

did you use the harness from svxdc?

Crusader 01-23-2006 07:02 PM

Probably got a ground wire connected to your car's dimmer wire or something along those lines, easy mistake to make but can cause lots of problems

I wish you could take a look too. :) It's lonely out here in portland, not much SVX community- just me and BigBlue it seems like heh.

What you describe sounds very plausible though. These people that worked on my car (found then over craigslist, BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART) told me they understood what they were doing (and were giving me very cheap prices... but now i see why) but i think clearly, they bit off more then they could chew when trying to fix my car's stereo system back up. It seemed like they indeed ****ed up my car even more. :(

When the Spot/Room buttons are turned on- NOTHING WORKS in the car. All lighting *inside* the car is instantly killed by pushing the Spot/Room buttons. That means my dash (speedometer/tachometer/EVERYTHING) lights go completely out. The Spot/Room lights still don't come on when the buttons are pushed, and none of the interior lights come on (not even the floor lighting) at all. Once all the lighting in the car is killed, if i turn the Spot/Room buttons back OFF, then in about half a second, my dash and lighting on the shifter area activates back on.

The security system also seems to be tied in with this issue as well, because it has competely gone haywire, and my clicker will not even work anymore to llock/unlock the car when SECURITY is activated. When it is deactivated, the car will lock itself (making three fast chirps i think)

I'm taking my car into Car Toys this coming weekend, and I'm hoping that they can handle the wiring issues....? Ugh. THis whole thing is really turning into a nightmare though.

Actually. Right now, there is no harness in my console at all. Everything was stolen. I just have a little dinky stereo "resting" in the mess that use to be my centre console.

I'm sure you will all advise me that this is kind of a bad idea too. :)

You are probably right. :(

Going to have Car Toys re-do all the wiring with a new stereo this weekend. Hopefully that fixes it. I'll report back.

Do what hot rodders do and put an original or non-extravagant non-functioning radio in the center consel where it should be and wire a kickin stereo in the glovebox

DarknessofDeath 01-24-2006 05:30 PM

that's really smart

SilverSpear 01-24-2006 11:21 PM

I am interested to see pics of what they have done to your car, and the missing harness?
