strange panel shape on the exterior
 

What is that panel shape between the door and rear wheel? It looks like there was something there and it looks unfinished. Has anyone removed it or painted it another color? Any information on this?

I assume extrerior which would be like the rear quarter panel so more details about what your asking for and maybe a pic or something.

If you're speaking of that plastic overlay just above the rocker panel, it's probably a splash or gravel shield protection thingy. Mine was removed prior to a paint job, & I never really missed it.

You can get a sign/tint shop to replace those for much less. I paid CAD$25 (removed/installed) to replace my peeling one.

I can say that the part is defiantly a gravel / tire dirt shield. Mine has numerous pits all over it after 240,000 miles. I am glad it's part of the body armor.

How would it look to replace them with little air scoops, like on a Supra?

I believe someone is doing or has done that already but I would think that lots of rocks would get in there.
