Re: big overhaull
If you're lucky, you will only use one day of your vacation to do this...
and enjoy the rest of your vacation driving your svx and enjoying the fruits of your labor. . |
Re: big overhaull
1st day :
first, remove engine undercover and both 2 upper covers. remove battery from the car and the plastic thing bellow the battery. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0092.jpg after do that, remove the down hose of the radiator. cooling fluid comes out so put something to keep it and discard it. remove the upper hose and the hose coming from to the cooling fluid canister. cooling fluid comes out so put something to keep it and discard it too. now, remove the 2 littles hoses at the lower of the radiator ( it's probably gearbox oil fluid ) fluid comes out so put something to keep it and discard it. you can disconect fans, remove the upper brackets and pull out the radiator assy whit fans. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0093.jpg you can remove the front grill to have more access ( 2 clips at upper ) and you going like this : http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0091.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0090.jpg now, you can loose the nuts of the power steering belt thighter. ( 1 nut and the screw ) http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0095.jpg that can loose the belt and you can remove it. mine was in very bad condition! http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0094.jpg now loose the 2 nuts of the A/C blet tighter. ( 2 nuts ) that can loose the belt and you can remove it. not really nice condition too. now, you can remove the 2 tighter brakets. 3 bolt of the A/C one and 1 nut for the steering one. disconnect the hose of the power steering pump. the hose pass just in front of the right side of the engine. doing that give you more space to check the timming belt of the right side of the engine. look out from the leaking fluid! :p thats all for today! tomorow i'll go remove alternator and power steering pump and remove timming belt covers. see you tomorow! ;) |
Re: big overhaull
Wow, needs a good cleaning. Make sure you get lots of nice "after" shots!
|
Re: big overhaull
yeah.
this car is old and not realy good maintenance. i'll gonna clean all before reinstall all of the parts. and you know, the black dust on the engine is from? its from steering belt! scary!!! lol |
Re: big overhaull
I had some issue when I first got my svx where it kept eating my power steering and a/c belts. It was so bad that I needed a new belt every week. Eventually, I got some money and OT fixed the problem for me. The belts beat the crap out of my hood though.

Re: big overhaull
2nd day
remove power steering and A/C belts tighters. 3 bolts for the A/C belt and 2 for the steering one. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0099.jpg after removed the hoses and the plugs from the steering pump, remove the 3 bolts of it to remove the pump assy. ( check the" how to " to see whitch bolts. not nessessary to remove the tank from the pump by the way. ;) ) http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0098.jpg remove bolts of the alternator. dont forget the plug and the wire. remove alternator. remove the bracket of the canister in the right of the engine. dont forget to disconnect hoses. 2 bolts here http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0100.jpg remove the horn bracket too. 2 bolts and one plug http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0101.jpg wow! it's seems there is a forest bellow my intake manifold! lol http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0102.jpg remove the crank pulley. use any method u think good. it's not the post to talk about it. i have use an good 22 wrench and hit it whit a rubber hammer. that come easily for me! :D remove the right shroud, the left shroud and the center shroud of the timming belt. that's look like this : http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0096.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0097.jpg |
Re: big overhaull
now allign timming point and use a white pen to mark the cranks and belts.
like this : http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0103.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0104.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0105.jpg now, remove the bolt of the belt tighter, and remove the tighter. now u can remove the timming belt! :D http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0106.jpg now replace all cranks and pulleys. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0107.jpg i think that was time to change it! http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_IMG_0108.jpg |
Re: big overhaull
and about the spring tighter?
just remove it : 2 bolts and use something to compress it and lock it by using the holes. okey, i know, my method is not realy "hi-tech" but works realy nice ^^ http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0119.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0110.jpg have you change all the cranks and pulley? http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0111.jpg so instal the spring tighter and the tighter pulley. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0112.jpg |
Re: big overhaull
check if the old timming belt is the same as the new one.
you can check if it's the same amount of teeths bettwen marks of the old and new one. it's ok for me, so put it in position! :D http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0113.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0114.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0116.jpg |
Re: big overhaull
all points and marks alligned?
so remove the thing you use to let the spring tighter come back in position. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...8/IMG_0117.jpg now, u can install freely the crankshaft pulley, and use it to make the engine have somes turns. for my case, i have done 3 revolutions. the marks of the belt are unalligned whit the mark of the pulley? dont panic. just allign the crankshaft and check the allignement of the camshafts. all is ok! ;) now u can install all things like the removal but in the other way. after that, you can add cooling fluid and power steering fluid. now you can start the engine and check if all is ok. donc forget to add cooling fluid, power steering fluid and tranny fluid if nessessary. ;) |
Re: big overhaull
Excellent thread, Naru. Very detailed and precise. Easy to understand even with the "slight" language barrier:)
