mas os x help

Is anyone here handy in Apple? I'm rebuilding an old G3 and need to wipe and reinstall the os to panther. I don't have the install cd's but do have the .dmg files for the install disk. Problem is i cant find a way to convert it to work on the Mac. I;m burning on Linux with acetoneiso. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like that program will convert .dmg files to a "mountable image" to quote their website. Maybe it will let you convert it to an .iso and then burn that as a bootable disc? I can't remember what burning program I used when I was playing with Linux, but I do remember burning bootable discs with it.
I dunno if that helps...

Have you tried using PowerISO?

Haven't tried power iso yet but acetone lets you convert mac files and unpacks them to individual files which is what i did and burnt it to a disk but it wont boot. I can open the disk on the mac to install and it tells me to restart but i need the admin password for the computer that I dont have.

keep in mind i'm running a dual boot win7/ubuntu laptop so any help getting this figured out to burn would be helpful.

Maybe these can help you. I'm an iPhone wiz, not a mac wiz :(

OK restarted in Win7 instead on linux to do this. downloaded dmg2img and ran it through admin in cmd. It decompressed ok i'm assuming and am downloading nero 9 to burn the iso image. I HATE APPLE.......why must you be difficult about things. I'd rather use DOS.

Win7 can burn .isos out of the box.

Re: mas os x help

Try holding down the  during reboot. If that doesn't work try option.

Alreeady tried the apple and option key. It just wont boot fro the cd. I can manually make it load but it requires a password that i dont have. Its a green/blue flavor G3 with the tray loader.....the real old ones.

It sounds like you are still trying to boot from the installed os. Try revisiting how you are burning your ISO or find a way to get in without a password.
