the symptoms 'cry for help pt2'

about a month an a half ago, on 3 different occasions, whenever i
put gas in the car it would start acting up. whenver i came to a red
light it would sputter and eventually shut off, it would start back
up but i would have to keep accelerating up to 2 to 2500 rpms to
keep it running. the car would do this for a lil while then it would
be ok. then on the first day of college, i got up early, got dress,
u know havin a good mornin, then when i went outside it wouldnt
start up. it trys to turn over but nothing happends. it sat outside
in the front yard for about 8 or 9 days. then on the 8th or 9th day,
my lil bro was like just go and try to start it. and it did. so i
called my mother on the cell phone and told her to come over and
follow me to the Alford tire center (Goodyear) my mother knew some
machanic there or sumthin. so as she was comin over i kept turn on
and off the car to see if it would keep starting up. it did. when
she got there, we both decide to eat, so turn it off, and went to
eat and when we were finished i went outside to start it up and it
didnt. it would try to turn over but nothing. so i took a day off
and had it towed up to the goodyear shop. they got the car and fix
my lil powersteering problem that i had and my car always starrted
up for them! which pissed me off because they said they could not run
diognisis (Excuse my Spelling! lol ) so i pick the car up about a
week later and started to drive it around town again. it was running
pretty good also. well for the 2 days it was running. then i had it
towed to another shop, their mechanic quit, now my sisters babys
daddy whatever has the car and he seems like a pretty good mechanic.
so now the car sits at his shop.. the closest subaru dealership is
like 200 mile away so that outta of the picture. another thing i
would like to had is that when i had the power steering leak (which
was from the high pressure hose) the fluid leak right on top of the
exhaust and the lil sensor lookin thing. it looks like the fluid
caked up and has burned into the metal and sensor. so maybe it could
be that but i dunno. sorry ya'll about the long novel but this car
is really stressin me out. all of my buddies are ricers ( have
hooked up hondas) and they kepp messin with me about the whole
situation sayin "u should of bought a honda" well i wanna get my SVX
back on the road and show em what the 3.3l AWD monster can do!!haha
any help will be greatly appreicated.. thx

What type of fuel ocatane are you using? If your car didn't have the 87 octane mod, then you should be putting in a minimum of 93 octane as our cars require premium.
Also did you check your fuel filter to see if it's clogged?

3 different shops and they couldn't diagnose problem....you should really go to a Subaru dealership even if it's 200 miles away....they are the experts...unless you can find a mechanic or shop that does work on Subarus particularly SVX's.

kcheek 09-27-2005 11:57 AM

I used nothin but 93 octane and i replaced the fuel filter about week before the none starting happend.

check the codes from the ECU. from the sounds of it, your timing is a bit off and casuing you to stall. It could be your sensors, or the belt has jumped some teeth. Also check the tps voltage and whatnot. If you do not know how to check these use the search, there are plenty of writups out there and I don't feel like doing another one

my head hurts.

oab_au 09-27-2005 07:21 PM

My eyes hurt!

I don't think you have found a good mechanic yet.
There could be any number of things that could be the cause. The two common ones are the Temp sensor and the crankshaft sensor. My guess is the crank sensor.

Harvey. ;)

the temp guage did at a little funny when all this was happening. it would jump up and then gradully go down then go back up. it would repeat this a few times then go back to normal.. thx for all the help...

msvx95 09-28-2005 09:54 AM

Are you leaking coolant anywhere? Headgasket blown maybe too?
And you are definately talking about the temp gage and not the tachometer fluctuating?

TomsSVX 09-28-2005 10:09 AM

when u say the temp gauge goes up and down, does the heat in the car change? I would also imagine blown headgasket..... What the heck have you done to this machine!!!????!?!?!

lol, i really dont think its the head gasket, but, i do have to put coolant in it every couple of months. ive had people look at it plus ive looked and checked several times for a leak. ive also super cleaned the engine to see if there was an oil leak or some other kind of leak. ive done the ol' check the drive way ( where i park) and the concrete is clean as a whistle. ive had the car a lil over 7 months. and ive gotten 5 to 6 oil changes and had it inspected for the lil minor probs everytime. i think ive taken pretty damn good care of the car, i absoluty love this car. ive bought 18'rims, big boy 13' breaks with axis ceramic pads, ive intstall infinity kaps, and i have an nice alpine amp with alpine subs to put in it. it just sucks that ive spent close to 2500 on the car and plans for a custom turbo ( which is still in the works), and now the son-of-gun wont start. if you guys knew me personally, u could tell that im not the same without me darkbloody red svx.. ive missed several of my classes and have taken time off from work and no progressin of it getting fix. now i feel like u guys are my only help. im so damn desperate that i would pay for info on this car..(only if the information worked) of course, but damn. i'm sure u guys know how i feel. but once again thx u guys for the lil info ya'll have already given me. i'm fixin to go this afternoon and give them the suggestions that ya'll have given me...so we'll see what happens

no the heat doesnt change, but every since ive had the car it seemed to me that it ran a lil warm..

kcheek 09-28-2005 11:47 AM

also the temp gauge only did the flucuating thing 2 times. then it was fine so i never really thinked anything about it

msvx95 09-29-2005 04:24 AM

I thought blown headgasket usually has symptoms of coolant leaking into the engine and mixing with the oil creating a big no-no  You won't see it leaking if you look around the outside of the engine....right??

Could also be burning it if you cracked the head. Listen, do us all a favor and check the oil. Most common symptom of coolant or water in the oil is a white film underneath the oil cap. Pop the cap off and take a look. Also might want to drain the oil and see if it seperates from the water
