what lube or seal to install crank cam sensor?
 

So my svx stalls engine code 11 and my cranks sensor showed electrical discontinuity after taking it out. Finaly got the replacement. The old sensor body has white stuff around it, which looks like sealant or something like that applied between the body and hole it is in.

Any one knows what that stuff is?

most likely white silicone. it's a cheap sealant/lubricant that can help it go in easily while ensuring it doesn't leak. the o-ring is what is supposed to actually seal it so you could lubricate the seal with oil or wheel bearing grease and probably be ok. i prefer to not use any sealant on engine sensors unless really needed because it has the remote possibilities of interfering with the signal or destroying the case.

No need to seal it, it is open to air on both sides anything on it is just to help it slide in.

Might it be some anti-sieze stuff to keep it from rusting in place?

you want to seal dirt and dust out, antiseize is not good on sensors because it has metal in it. just lube it up and stick it in.

Are we all talking about the same thing here? This guy? (It's a 4-cylinder, our engines have two sensors)

There's nothing to seal. At best a small amount of anti-seize will ensure that you can get it out in the future, but that isn't a huge concern. Throwing it in dry is perfectly fine.

all that crap on top of the ledge the sensor is on is what you are trying to seal out. same reason the timing cover has a gasket. dry is probably find but a little oil or grease will make install slightly easier and prevent corrosion.
