security?

I have a 96 that won't start and i'm not sure why. When i put the key in the lights are on but when i go to start the car it kills all power but works again when i take the key out. Last week I asked a dealership and they said to wiggle the gear selector so the car knows it's in park and that worked but not this time. any ideas would be great. thanx Josh

Re: security?

My car doesn't start sometimes, is yours intermittent or all the time wont start?
If I jiggle the shifter sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.
My security system is disabled/missing along with my power door locks.

Try starting in N?
Bosch Mod ignition relay?
Bad ignition switch thingy in the steering wheel?

I'm not a big help seeing mine still has intermittent start issues...

The other guys are going to want to know:
What does it sound like?
How far into ignition sequence is it getting?

Any info you can add will help other help you diagnose the problem.

Re: security?

The lights stay on to the first position but when i go to the on position it clicks, all the power dies and the security light starts to flash. I can't start it in neutral because when i press the brake that will also kill the power and start the security light flashing. One part of the problem might be I dont have a remote for the stock security system.

Re: security?

Clicks...........? Start simple, battery posts clean, battery cables clean/tight, battery charged good. A bad connection put under a load will fail. Sorry if all this has been coverd, but always start simple and work up, good day!.........G

Re: security?

Sounds like your ignition switch itself. Try the wiggle test in the "on" position and see if you can get something to happen. Sometimes the contacts can corrode or short causing a connection fault.

Re: security?

Maybe you just have a bad battery.
