Oil filter... help

ok so today i changed the oil in my 94 lsi, normally its an easy task. But today it was a pain in the a$$. last time i had the oil changed i didnt do it, due to time restrictions so i took it to the shop. When i went to take the oil filter off today i noticed it wasn't the same as the one i purchased, it was smaller in diameter and taller. Which made it extremely difficult to remove because my oil filter wrench doesnt go that small, so i had to make due. The filter is not the recommended one, would this cause any problems, like a leak (i have had a small oil leak lately). and why would the shop use it if its not the recommended one?

Not all filters for the same purpose are the same size. For example, AC Delco filters are often shorter than a factory one for the exact same motor.

As long as the threads match and the rubber gasket seals properly, no problem. When it comes to aftermarket goods, recommended generally means, "will fit."
