Bad Shift Points
Automatic Transmission Before rebuild:
1st: 45mph/6500rpm 2nd: 80mph 3rd: 130mph After rebuild: 1st: 40mph/6150rpm 2nd: 75mph ... This sucks! Gained much time on 0-60. Took it back and tranny place said nothing they did would affect my shift points. I tried removing resistor but that didn't help. Does anyone know how this happened or how I can fix it? |
um... this may sound simple, but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked... are you in power mode??
|
If you find out how to change the shift points, be sure to tell us!
I know most of us wouldnt mind shifting at 7k  :D |
Yes, I am in power mode. I even put it in first gear manu. mode to make it shift a little higher but it's not nearly as good as it used to be.

Yoda, what year is your SVX? Did you have a Subaru remanufactured tranny put in your car, or did the shop rebuild your old one?
|
My car is a '92 LSL. I had the original automatic rebuilt at a non-subaru transmission shop. Budget Transmission Masters.

You should be able to engage power mode in any gear simply by releasing the gas pedal then flooring it.
Some people also floor it twice but I find that unnecessary. |

The day I got my car out of the shop the alternator died and I got that replaced at our local dealership. You don't think that could have affected the shift points do you?
|
What're you guys's shift points for comparison. I did a 0-60 today at 9.3.

This may not be helpful since I know nothing about the Subaru tranny yet, but I had an 86 Jag 6 cylinder with automatic transmission, and the shift points were adjustable. Not through any obvious means, but through a cable adjustment that the book said was to compensate for band wear. Playing with that would make the trans shift either WAY early, or not at all. Setting it just right got it to shift just before redline.
Maybe the Subie has something similar? Craig |
That acually helps a lot and makes a lot of sense. When I got my car back the shift indicator was off from the P,R,N,D,3,2,1 windows by the shifter by like a quarter centimeter. When I took it back they said they didn't do it and they couldn't fix it. (Lying B*st*rds!) Do you think the cable to the shift lever could be related? I'v been meaning to tear it apart and see if i can adjust it.
Thanks a lot Craig. |
