Pully Idler Seized....

I was out on the other side of town and then suddenly heard some squealing going on.... it was only a matter of a minute before I had no power steering and power from the alternator. Thankfully it didn't leave me stranded and I was able to drive it far enough to a buddies house until it can be fixed.

The belt broke but after having someone else that knows more about cars than I do look at it, he said the pulley idler is locked up, stating probably why the belt broke.

Is that because of the ball bearings bad on it? If I order a new pulley assembly from Subaruparts.com for the $39 listed, will that be all I need with bearing job included as well or is there anything else I need? :(

Autozone had a new belt for me... but no one in this state apparently can buy the pulley idler, not even Napa? Give me a break.

You CAN replace just the bearing, but it is easier and faster to use the correct part from Subaru.:)

Don't blame NAPA. The idler pulley is a Subaru-specific part. Unlike belts, hoses and filters, no aftermarket equivalent exists.
