Subaru 91-94 Legacy Tubo

There was a nice article about the 91-94 Subaru Legacy Turbo in the latest issue of Hemmings Sports and Exotic Cars. There is also a slight mention of the SVX in it. I've attached the article for your enjoyment.

Now why can't subaru build that car today? Fit and finish was amazing as was the power plant. My mom's didn't spend a day in for unscheduled service in the 13 years she had it.

I'm not so sure about the lack of sales thing though as they were limited on the numbers they could import as a speciality car w/o going through the whole emissions testing proceedure with the different engine than the standard Legacy. Of course if they new they could've sold 30k of 'em I'm sure that would've paid for the testing but then again, I don't think there was the production ability in their Japanese plants at the time since it was an imported car unlike the rest of the legacy line save the postals.

Ben,

They do build that car today. It is the special Legacy GT "B" sedan. Unfortunately, by the time you get it from the dealer, It's close to $35K.
I wish they made it in a wagon. Subaru owns the wagon market. It would be a hot seller if they made a hot sport wagon.

No what you get now is a poorly made, poorly engined, overweight, not so reliable overpriced Mazda. The new (at least American made Subarus don't compare one bit to the Japanese Turbos of the early 90s) look at what Car and Driver said. Honestly though, the car is much cheaper today then in 92 as you don't need to go with a "b" sedan, just the Legacy GT which is what $26.5 or so. My mom paid just over $20k for her turbo at the end of year sale back in 92. Today with inflation and such that car would be around $30k.

no problems with my LGT as far as build quality or problems, besides the TSB on a dash rattle that i fixed myself in 5 minutes. nice n' solid. :)

Standards are different to different people. To me its well as big a piece of s%^& as my 03 GT is only its a $5k more expensive turd.

i must have low standards. :D

it has less questionable QC items than my SVX had, but the SVX had 8 years on it. however, the Porsche was better built (less rattles) than the SVX, and it was 10 years older than the SVX.

do you have an early '05? mine is late '05MY. there were a lot of misc complaints for the early '05's on LGT.com, but i don't see them much anymore. QC seems to have improved a bit.

I didn't say that Alan, you did. I'm not talking about rattles (of which I have none in my XT, none in my SVX, plenty in my Legacy and just as many in my F-250). Fit and finish is much more than rattles. Park it beside an equally priced Bmmer or Audi and it won't even compare.

I have an O3, my mom has an 06 that is worse than my 03. At least the 03 paint hasn't peeled completely off the orange under there. Can't say that about the 06. Wait, Subaru won't even admit its their problem as it wasn't noticed in the first 60 days. I guess that's how long Subaru stands by their paint now that GM is out of the picture. At least they fixed the problem.

well, sorry you got a couple bad ones. i'm been pleased with the SVX, WRX, and LGT, so i'm very happy with Subaru (although i may be looking at EVO X's next if Subaru doesn't lose the red-headed stepchild styling).

if its one thing i can't stand, its rattlebox cars. we've had good luck with the paint, but its pretty well known that you aren't getting an awesome paint job with a Sube. peeling off doesn't sound right, but chips and dings aplenty should be expected.

Ben, your a very angry man. You gotta smile or something...Always finding nothing but negative stuff about things.I mean, you could be driving a ford escort or a rusted out 80's civic hatch. Then you'd REALLY have something to rant about

As for paint...Its all junk. There isnt a new car manufacture out there that you can have a good factory paint job for under $100k. Ever look at a new chevy truck? Woah! Land rover could test it's suspension on that orange peel. Cant forget nissan's uncanny tendancy to get loaded with chips. Prettymuch every car manufacturererer had their bumpers and molding painted at diffrent places..Most of the time the color isnt even close.
As far as I'm concerned the only good paint jobs are from before they made HPLV guns illegal, or the ones you wet sand and buff out between coats.

Wait. Oh, I mean..

Grrr!! Paint sucks!! All paint is horrible, except for the one vehicle I find superior to all! (The ford econoline van, circa 1983) Grrrr, cars all suck! Paint sucks! vacume cleaners suck!!! I hate everyone Im not talking to anyone again forever buhbye!

:D

Ben, I think you've just had some bad luck. But, I also think that Subaru's quality dropped after 1994 and has only recently begun to pick back up again.

Alan what was the fix for the dash rattle? Where around the dash was your rattle? My moms legacy has a small rattle that seems like its coming near the radio somewhere...i hardly drive her car since I have my Impreza but its an annoying rattle though.

it was the "fuel line rattle" where the noise appears to come from the left side near the window. its actually the fuel lines entering through the firewall rattling down under the dash on the left side, that a piece of foam rubber fixes easily.

not sure about a radio rattle, but search LegacyGT.com for it.
