Backing up noise

Would you think transfer box if you hear a deep rumble when in reverse and turning? NOt from the steering but from the rear of the car and an ever so subtle shudder/vibe as if the clutch plates are not slipping smoothly in the case to compensate for the different rear wheels speeds?

Hard to say Jeff, try putting the fuse in and backing then to see if it still rumbles. Only that its a late model, I would suspect the rear suspension mounting. Like the lower trailing arms.

Harvey. ;)

The FWD fuse? I don't think it's out but that's a good 1st check.

It sure seems like a binding noise/vibe.

I have same problem

the dealer mechanic told me (without checking) that it's the transfer casing or something like that and told me to do the fwe fuse thing. It's a bad vibration underneath the car when turning. right.

Great, is the fuse thing, just pulling it out and then replacing when running?

He meant the fuse that goes into the slot above the AC (and uses the same size fuse, so you can switch it to test). It's not that its out, its that inserting a fuse in that slot puts the car into front wheel drive and if its a problem with the all wheel drive system, your car should lose the symptons. This sounds like what started on my car, my car also developed a whine about the same time. My thread is here
