e-brake question...
hey, when i first bought my car, the e-brake worked... and i always used it when i parked.... although i had to pull up much more than the recommended 6-7 notches... now, barely a week later, nothing.... i can pull it up ALL the way, and it doesnt keep my car anywhere...
i know you can adjust it... and i found the little panel to take off and i see two little nuts stacked on top of each other through the panel... can i adjust it through there, or take the consol off?? and if anybody has pictures explaining what to do, or very detailed instructions, that would be awesome.. thanks in advance! -drew |
The quick way:
Remove the console box cover plate (the lplate covers the square access hole on the left side of the console) Forcibly pull parking brake lever 3-5 times Adjust the parking brake lever by turning the adjuster (bottom nut) until parking brake lever stroke is set at 6-7 notches with operating force of 196 N (20kg, 44 lb). Tighten lock nut (top nut) But the proper way to do it Back off the cable adjuster through the console. Then adjust the rear brake shoes through a slot in the the backing plate. There is a small rubber cover that you remove, using a flat-bladed screwdriver, adjust the shoe adjustment until the wheel starts to bind. Back off the adjuster about 3-4 clicks until the wheel turns freely. Then adjust the cable through the console till the lever rises 6 to 7 clicks. If you just do the cable, the lever will feel better, but the brake won't work any better. . |
