Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
http://www.topspeed.com/cars/pontiac...e-ar54201.html
Only 1,100 sold before Pontiac closed its doors! I'm thinking ........ I'm thinking ..... |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
Do you mean the Solstice GXP? I love those cars. They made 4,826 Solstice in 2009. I prefer the styling of the Saturn Sky Redline though. They probably sold even fewer of those. Apparently in 2010 they made only 10 Saturn Sky. That's a lot fewer than the 51 of my '97 Canadian SVXs made.

Harry
A buddy of mine just bought a 2008 chilli pepper red Saturn Sky Redline with 8,000 miles on it. It looked new and is a blast to drive. He drove over a mountain pass with his brother and me (we have corvettes) and it had no problems keeping up. It has a very unique look and lookes very similar to the Solstice. Keep us posted. :) |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
My co-worker has beautiful dark blue Solstice, immaculate. Id rather have a buick Reatta;)

Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
Blacky and Earl,
I am thinking about the coupe rather than the convertible. Only 1,100 produced. here's one in CA: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...hRadius=0&mmt=[PONT[SOLSTICE[]][]]&listingId=345804388 The neat thing about THIS one is 1) low miles and 2) it has the best part is that GM offers a “tune” for the engine that takes it to about 300hp, which this one has already ...... But, probably only a dream at this point ....... I really don't want to sell the '97 SVX since it is essentially in show room condition and ALL the maintenance is up to date by Ole Tom. And new tires to boot. Of course the '92 is also is very good condition ...... sooooooo ...... who knows ... |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
I wouldn't mind a GXP coupe. The Saturn is OK, but the front is a little too busy. I would have to get a black one and black out some of the chromey bits.
|
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
And besides, the Saturn SKY did not have a coupe version - at least here in the States .... But the BLACK would be awesome!

Rearward vision looks like it's right up there with a panel van, but with the turbo version, you shouldn't have to look over your shoulder anyway. I'm sure Ruth will approve this purchase.

Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
I'd buy it. Ben and I were just talking about these the other day.

Harry,
GXP or go home! ;) They will handle some fairly large tires without any mods to the body (295? 315?). I think they go in BS -> ASP -> FP. I believe one was the BS champion at Nationals a couple of years ago. Cheers, Bill |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
I love them, beautiful cars, especially considering that it was a GM product. I hear the truck is very, very small, but I don't imagine that really matters much.

Absolutely the GXP, Bill .... and THEN there is a "dealer" mod that will give one about 300 HP! |

I think both roadster versions (Pontiac and Saturn) are pretty neat looking. The convertible top on the Pontiac gives me the willies due to those humps behind the seats though. I've never seen a coupe in person but the pictures are sexay. |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
Soooo ...... what the folks that know my cars - the '92 Pearly (4.44 gears, resealed and timing belt, etc, maintained by OT, 141K on the car with a 120K engine and 75K transmission) and the '97 RED garage queen with only 80K on the clock (all maint up-to-date by OT) think their fair market value is??? If I found and acquired one of these coupes, I'd probably have to sell my 2000 Tundra pickup too - even the fellow that sold it to me a few years back wants to "but it back"!

It all depends on where your focus is going to be in the future. The '92 Pearly has merit if you really want to continue to autocross an SVX, not so much if you don't. The '97 has merit if you're looking to do some long distance cruising and want to keep showing up at Reading in an SVX. Then again, you could show up at Reading in the '92. You'll want to keep the Tundra as a tow vehicle and to support your Habitat habit;) Tow vehicle if you want to tweak the '92 into ESP or just push it even harder in GS without worrying about having to drive it home. As far as values - probably Tundra, '97, '92. I might even be interested in the '97, as I was just informed by my better half that our 4.0 GPA, soon to be college sophomore daughter wants to take a car back to college with her in the fall and it might be my Accord dd. -Bill |

Using my value graph, it looks like the 97 would be worth $7,500 or so, and the 92 would be around $4,000. More info may need to be looked at to adjust the price up or down, but that is my first impression without it. |

Now, to decide, talk the wife into it, sell the SVXi, and then find a coupe. Oh, I forgot the lottery bit ... :D |

A box o' wine will fit in the trunk. So what's the problem?

You know, I could make you a really attractive package deal with all the "extra" parts I have in the basement :D And it would be very encouraging to know the '97 will be going to a good home ... How about the '97 AND the '92??;);) Harry |
Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
Some of you know already, however, I did want to report that I am NO LONGER "looking to change" my ride. I drove a 2006 Solstice with 44K miles on it - just not impressed at all! Admittedly, it was NOT a GXP, but the build quality was poor and it did not drive as well as my SVX (either of them).
I also had the opportunity to drive a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire - with 17K miles on it! VERY nice car, but again, the interior just seemed cheap. But with the 6-speed manual, it ran like stink - definitely faster than the SVX, and it handled pretty well too. But again, it was different, but not overwhelmingly BETTER. So I am sticking with the SVX - both the '92 for autocross and track events and the '97 to be the garage queen and weekend trips. Just something about a SVX, as all of you can attest. I just had a "wild hair" to try something different. At almost 70 years, I can do that on occasion, right? That said, had I driven a Solstice GXP Coupe or a SRT Crossfire, the story "may" have been different, but they are significantly higher in price and harder to find a "nice" example. And clearly in a retired mode, money "can be" an issue ..... BTW, I would not have gone anywhere from this forum anyway ... I'm here to stay!! |

Re: Hate to Say it, But I'm Thinking About This Car
Harry, your have confirmed my old retired man's thoughts. Will be looking for a late model Bordeaux garage queen. :) The '92 has been the most reliable and pleasurable car I have owned. I try to keep it a garage queen but, end up driving it every day. My son always swiping the Volvo might might play a part in that. :D
