SVX Advertisement campaign
I was thinking that this may be a way to increase the value of the SVX.
It’s fairly simple. Let’s say that everyone on the site takes out an ad to sell their SVX. The ad would be in a local paper or other auto selling publication. It would be a short ad maybe 20 words or less. The asking price should be high. Say $12K for a 92. :D The reason I ask this is because when my OBS got totaled, the insurance company based the value on ads from local papers. What do you think? |
Got my vote!
I'd take $22,000 for my '94 LSI.
*it's my dream and it can be as grand as I want* |
Sounds good
I've been thinking about doing something like this for a while.
Get all the people on the network to raise the SVX's value... that would be awesome! |
Haha. I can see it now. The feds haul every last one of us in on insurance fraud but Earl takes the brunt, 'cause they figure since he's the SVX speculator, he's the ringleader.:p
|
I'm in.
I think that would be awesome. This car has NO REASON to be worth this little! It was worth around 40 grand a while ago, should be higher then 2.5 grand now. which is what I got my car for. K, IM IN!

Earl would definitely have the most to gain if the value of our cars went up! ;) :p -Chike |
I'm in, too. I've toyed with this issue here several times, actually. My insurance agent told me from the get-go that I could get a specialty value-rated policy on my SVX, but that I'd need an appraisal from a "qualified professional." A Subaru dealership? A bank?
Well, I say we certify some knowledgeable regular(s) here to do on-line SVX appraisals considering what the car is truly worth to those in the SVX market. Some sort of plus/minus book value rating scale could be devised, based on mileage, appearance, original finish and equipment, collision repair, modifications (or lack thereof), and the like. Seriously, I wonder if a signed appraisal from the SVX World Network would be accepted by Nationwide as "qualified." I don't see why not. dcb |
I think that one of the best things about the SVX is its affordability. If you plan on keeping your car, why car what the value of it is?
|
I see your point and I agree with it in all cases except for the one where the insurance company says it's worth $1,700 and wants to total it out. $1,700 is not a lot of body damage on an SVX. A small collision with a "forest rat" will exceed that easily.

As for the totaling issue, I see your point. But, I think it is shadowed by the ability to get into another SVX for not much money at all. |

I'd like some means of being assured of receiving reasonable replacement value from my car if it's declared a total loss, so I'm happy to see folks price 'em high and hope they get every penny. "Book" value offers no consideration of the car's overall quality, nor to the work I've done and money I've spent. You all have a much better idea than Nationwide Insurance Company what it's truly worth. And consider what it would cost to buy a comparable, late-model anything. dcb |

a thing is worth what someone will pay for it.
lets get someone famous to drive one, then everyone will want one! oh....and lets wait till i get another one, k? Kelli |
SVX Value
Something akin to this happened in the late 1980's in collector car circles. A few major collector car dealers bought up most of the available "choice" cars, then took turns "bidding" on the cars with no actual sales taking place. Cars would be advertised as "valued at" a high figure, based on bids. This lasted only a short while because eventually they really wanted to sell their cars. The inflated collector car market took a dive and lots of poor, unsuspecting investors took a beating. Classic cars and collector cars can be good investments, but any "coming classic" is pure speculation. Your best bet is to drive and enjoy the SVX as long as you can keep it running and in safe driving condition. Seldom do we see a car that was a poor selling new car later become a collector car. It happens, but rarely.

What about a nice article in SCC about a supercharged 6 speed svx that can whoop a wrx, or an intercooled turbo svx with lambo doors and blingin' 18's. Something that would appeal to the ricer community followed by everyone here putting their svx on ebay for +$10K. It seems to work for all the other import supercars. I pour all I have into my svx and if mine ever gets totalled out I'll be forced to strangle someone.
|
That is why I have more than 1. If I total one, I know that I have one that was purchased at a resonable price. :) I have been trying to buy them all up so they will be in shorter supply and they will be worth more. :D I am trying to do my part. ;)

I'm serious...When mike finishes stage 3 I think a letter to SCC would be in order. Since I've been here I've seen some major strides for the svx. Lambo doors, Turbo/Supercharger that might work, rocker panels, commonality of the manual trans all great stuff. And not in that order.

I'm not suggesting some sort of dopey scheme to artifically inflate the value of these cars. Rather, that the community of knowledgeable SVX owners is best qualified to appraise their true worth. Seems a simple concept that I'm doing a dismal job of getting across. dcb |
"Rather, that the community of knowledgeable SVX owners is best qualified to appraise their true worth." Do you think an insurance company will base a cars value on what a community thinks it's worth? I'm not in favor of screwing with what makes an SVX an SVX but If it takes giving people what they want then so be it. A five speed SVX is better than a crushed one any day. Transmission failure is why 90% of them are out of commission, at least around where I live. I just want to let people know that the SVX is worth making a project out of. Don't throw them out because the dealer gave you an outrageous estimate, it is still a great car with performance potential that shouldn't be sold on ebay for $400.
